  • 1-Up – Same as an Extra Life.
  • 1-Up Mushroom – A green mushroom that awards an Extra Life.

  • Beta – a term for things that were going to be in a game, but got cut off.
  • Big Eight – a conjectural term that groups the major characters of the Marioverse: Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Wario, Donkey Kong, Yoshi and Toad.
  • Brick Blocks – Blocks can contain coins or even power-ups in the case of ? Blocks. They usually need to be jumped from underneath to reveal the goods.
  • Bros. Points – usually shortened to just BP, Bros. Points are points in Superstar Saga that help the bros. do Bros. Attacks.

  • Coin – the form of money in the Mushroom Kingdom.
  • Conjecture – an unofficial name for an article.

  • Extended Marioverse – items that are one branch from the Marioverse. Includes series such as Donkey Kong and WarioWare.
  • Extra Life – Sometimes in the form of a green mushroom or other special object, Extra Lives add back one life to the user's total, negating the loss of a life.

  • Filler Character – a conjectural term used for characters that were created to fill a void. I.e. Waluigi is the opposite to Luigi as Mario is to Wario.
  • Flower – common plant seen in many Mario games, often as an item.
  • Flower Point – FP for short, Flower Points are used in the Paper Mario games to do other kinds of attacks.
  • Fire Flower – a somewhat rare item often used as an attack.

  • Game Over – what happens when all lives are lost.

  • Heart Points (aka Hit Point) – called HP for short, this is what lives are called in RPG games.

  • Life – In platformer games, there are a certain amount of lives that the player has. He or she can lose them by being hit by enemies too much or even gain them by finding extra lives. If the player loses all of his or her lives, a Game Over ensues.

  • Mushroom – common food in the Mushroom Kingdom, often a basic item.
  • Mushroom Kingdom – The area where most Mario games take place.

  • Player – the person that's actually playing the game and using the controller.

  • Vaporware – a term for games that did start development but never were published.

  • Warp Pipe – the form of transportation in the Mushroom Kingdom. Simply entering the pipe at one end takes the user to the other end.
