Spiny Eggs are the projectiles thrown by Lakitu. Spiny Eggs are small, usually red balls covered in spikes. Despite its name, a Spiny Egg would appear to not be an egg at all; it seems to simply be a Spiny rolled up into a ball. They are invincible while in this state. In New Super Mario Bros., it is revealed that a Spiny will curl back up into a Spiny Egg when touched with water, and can float at the surface.

Spiny Eggs have also been referred as pipes, especially with the existence of Sky-Blue Pipes (which are the Sky-Blue Spinies' answer to the Spiny Eggs).
