Fighter Flies are one of the myriad of pests inhabiting the sewers in the original Mario Bros. They hopped, so Mario's jump had to be timed precisely to knock them over. Fighter Flies seem to have made a new home on the boundary between the Mushroom and Beanbean Kingdoms in the game Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga.
