Golden Balloons are magical balloons from Diddy Kong Racing and its enhanced port, Diddy Kong Racing DS, which can be used to open doors to races and bosses. They are more equivalent to Stars from Super Mario 64 or the Shine Sprites of Super Mario Sunshine than to the trophies of Mario Kart legend (although there are trophies in the game). There are a total of forty seven balloons in the game, all of which are needed to complete the game and see the ending/credits.
