Cannon Pipes are Pipes that appear in Super Mario World, New Super Mario Bros., New Super Mario Bros. Wii and New Super Mario Bros. 2.
In Super Mario World, Cannon Pipes are always on a slant and fire Mario or Luigi to very far places. The pipes here cannot be entered and are always exited via a different pipe, mostly from an underground area.
The Cannon Pipes from New Super Mario Bros., New Super Mario Bros. Wii and New Super Mario Bros. 2 are similar to the Cannons used to travel to a different world, except they fire the player within a much smaller range. To use these pipes, unlike in Super Mario World, players are to enter one and then are automatically fired off, often to an unreachable ledge, platform, or even a different area. In New Super Mario Bros. 2, Cannon Pipes are also used to reach the Rainbow World.
In Mario Kart DS, the course Airship Fortress (which also reappears in Mario Kart 7) contains a Cannon Pipe, which shoots the player to the tower near the Airship.
