The players damage Chain Chomp by picking mine carts and hoping that they lead to cannons. Before each round, the players will get a view of the rails and the alternations between paths. The players must then select their mine carts by pushing one of the buttons. Along the tracks, there will be routes that switch the paths the mine carts are taking. There are five paths; four lead to cannons (occasionally, one leads to a gold cannon), and one leads to the Chain Chomp. Players who reach an iron cannon blast Chain Chomp and earn one point, and the gold cannon gives the player three points; hitting Chain Chomp deducts the player's score by one point.

Template:Minigame-infobox Chain Chomp Romp is a boss minigame in Mario Party 9.

Introduction

The camera shows a view of the players, the tracks, the cannons, and Chain Chomp. The view then zooms in on Chain Chomp, who romps around slightly, followed by the two volcanoes in the background erupting one after another.

Gameplay

The players attempt to damage Chain Chomp by selecting one of five mine carts and hoping that they lead to a cannon. Players who reach an iron cannon blast Chain Chomp and earn one point, and the gold cannon gives the player three points, as well as dealing it more damage then an iron cannon; hitting Chain Chomp deducts the player's score by one point. Each player that reaches a cannon fires at Chain Chomp in order from left to right.

When Chain Chomp loses half its health, two of the tracks will lead to it instead of cannons.

The player who lands the final attack earns an additional three points, and the player who earns the most points when Chain Chomp is defeated will win.

Ending

Chain Chomp will be blown back. The stake will be pulled out of the ground by the sudden push back, and Chain Chomp will fly away, revealing several Mini Stars. The volcanoes will then erupt once more, one after another.
