At the beginning of the game, a cursor picks the player who goes first; the rotation of players then continues in the same order as the captain rotation. Players try to pick fishing lines that they think have Cheep-Cheeps on them. If any players should pick a fishing rod with an Urchin, they are knocked into the water and eliminated. The game is purely luck-based; there is no way of telling whether a rod has a Cheep-Cheep or an Urchin hooked to it.

Pier Pressure is a Free-for-All minigame featured in Mario Party 9. The name is a pun on the phrase peer pressure, a term meaning for a person to be in a friendship with others who try to conform them into behaving and thinking like the group.

Introduction

An underwater shot shows Cheep Cheeps and Urchins swimming around. It then goes above water and shows the pier and the players.

Gameplay

At the beginning of the game, a cursor picks the player who goes first; the rotation of players then continues in the same order as the captain rotation. Players try to pick fishing lines that they think have Cheep-Cheeps on them. If any players should pick a fishing rod with an Urchin, they are knocked into the water and eliminated. The game is purely luck-based; there is no way of telling whether a rod has a Cheep-Cheep or an Urchin hooked to it, even if the line moves in a different way from another.
