Luigi Is In!

Nintendo's Official Facebook states that Luigi will appear in this game. They also mention "other favorite characters" too, but I know thats too broad. Heres the link:[1]
The preceding unsigned comment was added by M4R10 BR0S (talk).
they might be making sound exciting but we have to have official notice for luigi, some kind of picture or artwork or text.Fuzzy in New Super Mario Bros. UYoshiGo99Artwork of a Yoshi egg on a tilt. It is unknown whether this artwork was released with a certain game or not.

Yes, the official Nintendo Facebook page has text, but you have to be logged in and like the page to see it. Their post reads "This just in - New Super Mario Bros. 2 will be launching for Nintendo 3DS in August! This all-new, side-scrolling adventure features Mario, Luigi and all your fave characters from the Mario series. Are you excited to play?"

Gold Mario

What does gold mario do? Is it sort of like invincible mario?
The preceding unsigned comment was added by Link007 (talk).

We've only seen screenshots so far, so we don't know yet. FakeIco MCD.png MrConcreteDonkey 14:20, 21 April 2012 (EDT)
That's a good question and in fact I think that actually it's invincible Mario (he is multicolored in this form and one of these colors is gold).

¢oincollctor rsitem209.png

I think it is either a super guide, or a new powerup (possibly like White Tanooki Mario). i dont think its invincible mario, as that is too solid and shiny, plus there are golden enemies. --firebrick purplebluegoldbluegreen PKB FSB.png firebrick
I think that it should not be put in the article unless we have it confirmed. I'm removing it for now, and if we do get some evidence that it is a power-up, I'll be fine with having it there. PidgeyIcon.pngRandomYoshi(TalkPMsC) 05:15, 22 April 2012 (EDT)

Are there source?

Is there a source that this game is canon? - Bill-tendo 10:26, 22 April 2012 (EDT)

My god, people these days http://www.gamespot.com/news/new-super-mario-bros-2-hitting-3ds-this-august-6372611 There's plenty of sources on there.

Dude, I'm just asking. - Bill-tendo 12:01, 22 April 2012 (EDT)

Super Mario Wiki doesn't create articles for games unless they have an official source. yoshiyoshiyoshi (talk)

NSMBW is NSMB2?

I want to make it clear. NSMBW was officially called NSMB2? (I mean if Nintendo itself has declared the NSMBW can also be called NSMB2) or just an alternate title from not-official media? ¢oincollctor rsitem209.png

New Super Mario Bros. Wii is the original follow-up of New Super Mario Bros. (which actually toke place some unknown amount of time after the events of Super Mario Galaxy), and I also believe it was known as New Super Mario Bros. 2 too. But everyone should know this; sometimes, developers change the titles before the release. It should have been named Super Mario 2D Land instead. By the way, despite the name sounding like a sequel, I really doubt New Super Mario Bros. 2 would take place right after New Super Mario Bros., making the game occuring before the events of Super Mario Galaxy. It is set to follow the events of Super Mario 3D Land.--Prince Ludwig 06:09, 23 April 2012 (EDT)
Actually I was looking for a simple answer, and your reply is more deducible rather than factible (something that I see with the users who created the redirects for the NMSBW article), therefore it's still unclear because you haven't said if Nintendo said that NSMBW was ever called NSMB2.

¢oincollctor rsitem209.png

Since it was a follow-up, it was always known as New Super Mario Bros. 2 by fans because New Super Mario Bros. Wii was the game's sequel. There's no source that Nintendo says it was called 2. So, it was never called New Super Mario Bros. 2 by Nintendo. But there's the real official New Super Mario Bros. 2 now (which could have its title changed at any time before the release because that name is very suited for a possible new Super Mario game based on Super Mario Bros. 2 and BS Super Mario USA, darn it).--Prince Ludwig 17:26, 23 April 2012 (EDT)
If that's the case, we should avoid that NSMBW is also called NSMB2 and add information to the article based on that because it's not official.

¢oincollctor rsitem209.png

Uh-huh. You got it. ;) --Prince Ludwig 15:00, 24 April 2012 (EDT)

NSMBW is not a sequel to NSMB, rather, a follow-up for the Wii console (obviously). Fans call it NSMB2 because it's the second installment the New Super Mario Bros. sub-series. They just add numbers to the titles of sub-series' installments that only have up to 1-2 follow-ups. (Example: PM:TTYD = PM2). However, "this" NSMB2 is considered NSMB2, because this is the 2nd NSMB game to be on a handheld. I can see why you're totally confused though. xP.--UM3000 E-102 Gamma.png

I was talking about the chronology--when those games actually toke place. I am not confused, and you didn't understand what I meant. However, I did understood what you said now.
And yes, New Super Mario Bros. Wii is after the events of New Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Galaxy, and New Super Mario Bros. 2 would have to be after Super Mario 3D Land, not directly after the events of New Super Mario Bros. because it has a 2. It was the same for Super Mario Bros. 2 since it wasn't a direct sequel to Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels. Those games are all the Super Mario series installments after all. It doesn't matter if they are on a handheld or a TV console. The chronology of the Super Mario series is not like Zelda's at all.
I know that it's the second New Super Mario game on a handheld console. It's quite obvious. And despite that, it chronologically takes place after the events of New Super Mario Bros. Wii. It's not an alternate version of New Super Mario Bros. Wii or something like that.--Prince Ludwig 10:04, 28 April 2012 (EDT)

Return of Mini Mario?

Look the Hidden mini blocks in the image: http://www.mariowiki.com/File:NSMB2_screen2.jpg

I think the return of Mini Mario
The preceding unsigned comment was added by Galaxymario99 (talk).

But notice the Brick Blocks. Possibly a P-Switch can turn them into coins. So we have 2 unknown thoughts, Mini Mario or P-Switch or both.Fuzzy in New Super Mario Bros. UYoshiGo99Artwork of a Yoshi egg on a tilt. It is unknown whether this artwork was released with a certain game or not.

I doubt ... although it is possible, but would be meaningless to those mini blocks if there is a P-Switch?! Galaxymario99 (talk)

Super Leaf

I remeber reading somewhere that it was in the game. But it was called a Power Leaf instead. I can't find the source though....

yoshiyoshiyoshi (talk)

It's clearly a Super Leaf. "Tanooki Leaf", "Raccoon Leaf" and now "Power Leaf"? Oh my god... It's obvious it'll be a Super Leaf. It literally means the Super Leaves will reappear. What kind of replacement do you guys expect? -_-; --Prince Ludwig 17:35, 23 April 2012 (EDT)

Scuttle Bug

Well, I've gotta say that those Scuttle Bugs look different than they did in previous games. Are we sure they are Scuttle Bugs? ~ Qyzxf (talk)

Usually all characters from the Marioverse get a design revamp in various games they appear (specially enemies, for example the Mario Galaxy ones). No wonder they are scuttle bugs because they retain some basic characteristics.
