Chain Event is a Free-for-All minigame featured in Mario Party 9.
Introduction
The captain begins sliding down the chain and switches to dodge a spiked ball. The camera splits to show all players.
Gameplay
Players dodge spiked balls by switching from one side of a chain they are sliding down to the other. As they go longer without being hit, players will go faster, but getting hit will stun the player and slow them down. The first player to the bottom of their chain wins.
Reverse Minigame
Only playable through Bowser's Wheel via a Bowser Space, the objective of this minigame's Reverse Minigame is to be the last one to the bottom of the chain. In order to accomplish this, players should attempt to hit every Spiked Ball they see, rather than avoid them.
Trivia
- This game is very similar to the night version of What Goes Up... from Mario Party 6 and Flip the Chimp, from Mario Party 8.
- Several Swoopers can be seen as the player falls.
- The name is a pun on "main event".
