SMRPG
The seven Star Pieces form the Star Road, where the Star Spirits live. When Smithy shatters the Star Road into seven star pieces, a star named ♥♪!? comes down from the sky and posesses a doll named Geno. Geno joins Mario and Mallow at Forest Maze. Mario finds the seven Star Pieces after the end of each chapter, usually by defeating a boss, but not always (like the one at Star Hill).
Paper Mario/TTYD
The Star Pieces are gold fragments of a Star. Mario finds these hidden in various places throughout his adventures. They can be traded for badges.
