Flopside is the mirrored counterpart to Flipside in the game Super Paper Mario. The main features that distinguish Flopside relatively from Flipside are a reversal of all areas, buildings, and residents (inanimate objects are mirror images of their Flipside counterparts) and the town being painted in shadowy tones as opposed to the bright white and yellow tones of Flipside, as well as a general dilapidated look such as broken windows and pillars. Like Flipside, Flopside contains its own Pit of 100 Trials, the boss of which is Shadoo. The Mirror Hall serves as a bridge between the two towns.
Because of the reversed nature of Flopside, the residents of the town are the opposite versions of the residents of Flipside, which in turn causes them to have different personalities, or perhaps different preferences. For example, Pook of Flipside loves the sea, while his Flopside counterpart, Puck, prefers the sky. Another example is the cook Dyllis, Saffron's counterpart, who mixes two items instead of simply cooking one. Generally, the ambience of Flopside is very dour and disconsolate.
Flopside was created by both the Tribe of Ancients and the Tribe of Darkness as an antithesis to Flipside. It was first realized that without darkness (as Flipside was a town of light), Flipside would fall into ruin, as light cannot exist without darkness. As a result, Flopside was created as a town of darkness to offset Flipside. The two towns are in perfect balance and have been ever since.
As a side note, all the Heart Pillars in Flopside are located in the same spot in relativity to Flipside.
In the PAL version, the 2nd Floor is called 1st Floor and the 3rd Floor is called the 2nd Floor. The 1st Floor was also changed to the Ground Floor. Flopside is one of the dimensions destroyed by The Void.
Trivia
- Though many assume only a select few in Flopside know of Flipside, by the time the player has beaten the game many residents will mention Flipside--one of them in fact moves to Flipside.
- Flopside's name derives from the second half of the phrase flip-flop.
- Flopside's music is the exact same as the Flipside music, transposed down several keys. Flopside also lacks some notes.
- All the Flopside residents have pointy noses, as opposed to the flat noses of Flipside residents.
- Flipside & Flopside represent the mirror of light and dark.
- Despite the arches situated atop Flopside Tower, there are no levels accessed via Flopside, apart from Chapter 8-1.
