While giving examples of how the Nintendo 3DS enhances gameplay, Miyamoto has stated that hitting blocks from underneath in 3D Mario games would be a little bit easier with stereoscopic 3D. Blocks will be more present in the sad, unlike past 3D games, where blocks were more few and far between. Star Coins that have a similar design to the Comet Medals from Super Mario Galaxy 2 will be found in each level, with collecting all three being part of the level's challenge, like in the New Super Mario Bros. games. Checkpoint Flags and Green timers can be picked up to give the player more time to complete the level, the latter a mechanic only seen previously in Super Mario Galaxy 2's Speedy Comet missions. Mario himself returns with some of his trademark 3D abilities, such as the Wall Jump, Long Jump, and Ground Pound, and is now capable of performing a somersault, which is done by crouching while moving. Because the Long Jump is now performed through a somersault, it includes a front flip during the jump, but is functionally identical. Mario's health system is now based on the side-scrolling titles rather than being a numbered meter: one hit shrinks Mario to a smaller size and removes his cap, while power-ups give him an extra health point. These power-ups include the Super Mushroom, the Fire Flower, the Star, and the Super Leaf, the last of which has not been seen since Super Mario Bros. 3. Notably, the Fire Flower, unlike its previous 3D appearances in Super Mario Galaxy and its sequel, no longer has a time limit imposed on it and is retained until Mario is hit, as in the side-scrolling games.

Wait a second... How do you know if it's single player AND MULTI PLAYER? --Master Koopakid 07:49, 5 February 2011 (EST)

That just means both cna be played. Tons of Mario games have had single and multi player. Hello, I'm Time Turner.
Is there proof that there's multiplayer? Fawfulfury65
It is only known about on the Ask Iwata interview. At the end they talk about making the game, but no information is given what mode it will be. In this case, it should be removed untill there is information about what mode it is. Or you could say N/A. Tadaa!2.gifSupremoTadaaa!.gif
I don't know how I ended up thinking that it will be multiplayer.

Tezuka: I think New Super Mario Bros. Wii firmly established the idea of everyone in the family playing together.
Iwata: Yes. I think families played the original Super Mario Bros. together, too. I feel like New Super Mario Bros. Wii suddenly brought us back to that time, and expanded upon it.
Tezuka: Yeah. I want to keep heading in that direction so the games are a tool for family bonding. However, I want the games to be a tool for expanding upon previously existing good elements rather than for making something different.
#ccc
Miyamoto: Yes. So, in the interests of adopting new technology for the Super Mario Bros. tradition, I am now making a new Super Mario Bros. game for the Nintendo 3DS system.
Iwata: The next stage for the Super Mario Bros. Preservation Society's activities is the Nintendo 3DS.
Miyamoto: Yes. (laughs) I want to show everyone as soon as possible what the new Super Mario Bros. will be like on the Nintendo 3DS.

…Still confusing. SWFlashSWFlash.svg

[N]SMB3DS

Okay, will this be a remake of SMB3, a SMB3-ish game, a SMB-ish/sub-series game, or a sequel to NSMBW? Oh, and should the SM3DS article exist? Cause Nintendo also mentioned LM3DS, and if LM3DS won't be an appropriate article, then this shouldn't either.--Holyromanemperortatan 18:23, 8 February 2011 (EST)

We don't know what kind of game this will be other than it's supposed to be some kind of Mario Bros. game. This article doesn't include much more than where it was announced and that it's going to be on the 3DS, so I don't think the article is worth it either. But it may be worth keeping for when more info comes. Fawfulfury65
If it is deleted, it can still be recovered when SMB3DS is truely confirmed.--Holyromanemperortatan 18:35, 8 February 2011 (EST)

IGn's confirmed a Super Mario 3DS, but they say it is unknown if it a side-scroller or a 3D game. --Holyromanemperortatan 17:42, 24 February 2011 (EST)

--It's a 3-d Game. IGGY7735

Actually,according to what I learned from the article(and I read it in the article)its a 3-D AND a 2-D, kind of like the Galaxy games.--=D Smileymiley5001 =D 05:07, 6 March 2011 (EST)

It's 3D world (like SM64), but it can be played with 2D or 3D graphics.--Holyromanemperortatan 16:43, 21 April 2011 (EDT)

New screens ?

Pics for next Mario 3DS game

Should we add this to the article ? Does anyone have the logo too ? Koopalmier 12:55, 2 March 2011 (EST)

I propose we change the article's name. A Super Mario Bros. title hasn't been OFFICIALY announced. Miyamoto did say they're making one, but they're constantly making main series Mario games so it's no surprise. Super Mario 3DS is now official though. Also, noticed there's a Comet Medal on one of these screens. Koopalmier 13:03, 2 March 2011 (EST)

If you look at the bottom-left screen, you can barely see Mario without his hat. RedYoshiMK7Signature.png M&SG (talk) 13:06, 2 March 2011 (EST)

Yeah, sorry for the badly made screenshot. I was too excited. I couldn't screenshot the logo either, but someone could try and make an exact copy of it. Koopalmier 13:08, 2 March 2011 (EST)
More importantly, it's Small Mario. My excitement level is too high. Koopalmier 13:17, 2 March 2011 (EST)

Awesome screens. I want them in the article. (Resembles SMG, huh?) SWFlashSWFlash.svg

It closer resembles Super Mario 64, in my opinion, especially in the top-right screenshot. We can conclude it resembles the 3D series as a whole. FakeIco MCD.png MrConcreteDonkey 13:25, 2 March 2011 (EST)

Is this from a video? Do you have a link to said video? FakeIco MCD.png MrConcreteDonkey 13:32, 2 March 2011 (EST)
It's from the live stream, which is over now. I guess someone recorded it and will put it on Youtube soon. But the only thing we know about this game is that there'll be invisible blocks. Koopalmier 13:35, 2 March 2011 (EST)

Anybody was hinted that Raccoon:: Mario would come back? ¢oincollctor rsitem209.png -Forum-like question off permanently-

I've took a better screenshot (without Iwata's head) with logo as well. I hope it'll let you see the whole thing. Also I took the eShop thing, I'm going to add it to the 3DS article. SWFlashSWFlash.svg

Ah, almost forgot here's that video. SWFlashSWFlash.svg

Bet you anything, this game will be released later this year. After all, it has been 30 years of Mario. Can someone post the logo on the page? User:DK Fan

I heard there will be Mario with a Raccoon Tail from Super Mario Bros. 3, Raccoon Mario that is. It would be sure that Mario would need a Super Leaf for that. --Prince Ludwig 15:18, 2 March 2011 (EST)

Here's what Iwata said:

Why do you think there's a tail in the logo? Decide yourself! You'll find it out in next E3.

TAIL, not just a speculation of drawing. SWFlashSWFlash.svg
Which, in turn, means it's a guess and shouldn't be on the article. FakeIco MCD.png MrConcreteDonkey 15:30, 2 March 2011 (EST)

The screenshot on the top right looks similar to Yoshi Star Galaxy don't you guys think so. It has Piranha Plants and that hill on the starting planet.--File:YoshiMP8a.PNGYoshiGo99Yoshi 16:32, 2 March 2011 (EST)

How do you expect Mario to grow up into Super Mario? Who removed the Super Mushroom? I know there's no Super Mushroom in any screenshots, but Mario will surely need it to turn into Super Mario.

In the level with many platforms at the top there is a yellow X thing near a Question Block. What is it?--File:YoshiMP8a.PNGYoshiGo99Yoshi 21:20, 2 March 2011 (EST)

Don't know...but we will find out soon enough. Why the game looks to have many planets? Sounds interesting. I hope the game does not feature another hub.--Prince Ludwig 23:05, 2 March 2011 (EST)

The hubs are staples of the 3D games. I think they should have one, whatever it may be. Teamrocketspy621 23:09, 2 March 2011 (EST)

Maybe it's Yoshi's tounge. DK Fan

2D + 3D

Seeing the bottom left image on that image showing screenshots of the game, I think the game will be a 3D game that has the similar powerup system to the 2D games. In addition, I think that it will not be some sort of 3D version of SMB3 but it will probably have the Raccoon Leaf will be one of th powerups. SKmaric (talk)

The second and fourth screenshot lead to believe it'll have much more platforming, yet the first and second screen lead to believe it'll be an open world like Super Mario 64's levels. Maybe it's a mix of both ? It has SM64's open worlds, SMS' platforming, SMG's style and SMG2's colors. It's going to be a VERY great game. Koopalmier 01:26, 3 March 2011 (EST)
Koopalimer. I can state that I agree with you. It will be a great game I am sure. Kaptain K. RoolKaptain K. Rool Sprite of Kaptain K. Rool in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest.

Rename

Can it be renamed to "Super Mario (game)"? SWFlashSWFlash.svg

I don't see the issue, but we can keep the current title until E3 2011 in June, including for the rest of the Mario 3DS games...--Prince Ludwig 00:30, 4 March 2011 (EST)

Comet Medals' different appearance

Look closely at the Comet Medals...they don't seem to have a comet star's mark on it, looks more like a regular star. Looks more like Comet Medal-like Star Coins as Bonus Coins in the game...so it seems. Well, we don't know for sure until June.
— The preceding unsigned comment was added by Prince Ludwig (talk).

The video was in very bad quality, but I can barely see the tail. But of course they can be Star Coins. Needs more info. SWFlashSWFlash.svg

Well, I don't know for sure...To tell you the truth, I really vote for the Comet Medal to reappear instead of Star Coins...What if Luigi and Yoshi reappears...please, don't make the game's story of Bowser kidnapping Princess Peach again...I can't take it.
— The preceding unsigned comment was added by Prince Ludwig (talk).

Personally,I prefer Star Coins. It looks a lot like a Comet Medal though. And the tail on the logo might mean that they are bringing in loads of new power-ups that turn him into animals that have tails.I think Nintendo should make a game about Princess Eclair(my favourite princess).Still, though should this kinda thing be on the forum.--=D Smileymiley5001 =D 05:17, 6 March 2011 (EST)

I can't wait to see more details, and the official trailer too. Wonder they would bring new enemies, I really want Raccoon Mario or Luigi to appear again--especially, Yoshi again! A new Mario game must return old enemies, especially Wart, he was said to have potential for spin-offs too, during years ago, even he was suggested to be in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. :D --Prince Ludwig 22:49, 8 March 2011 (EST)

Here. SWFlashSWFlash.svg

I can't do that. I've had enough registred accounts.--Prince Ludwig 05:26, 10 March 2011 (EST)

What's your problem? SWFlashSWFlash.svg

Well, I've registred accounts in my name on several cite webs, I think I've had enough. I also won't remember where my accounts are, since there's some many places I need to remember. --Prince Ludwig 21:09, 10 March 2011 (EST)

No comet's tail, most likely a Star Coin. And also, Prince Ludwig, you can just place links to all of the websites you're on in your user/talk page to remind you of what you're on and other people can take a look of what you've been doing on those sites. I did that. SKmaric (talk)

Mushroom Kingdom or Outside

I wonder if the game takes place outside the Mushroom Kingdom...it doesn't look like it is set in the Mushroom Kingdom. I'm probably sure it takes place somewhere else on Mushroom World. I wish we can also have to travel through the Mushroom Kingdom to the outside world, like Super Mario Bros. 3 to Super Mario Galaxy 2. If that was the case, I'm not sure the game will feature a hub world again.--Prince Ludwig 22:49, 8 March 2011 (EST)

What if the hub is Peach's Castle or some other place? That would be interesting.--Holyromanemperortatan 19:32, 9 March 2011 (EST)

No, no, no, some other type of adventure. Look how we play Ocarina of Time for example--It would be interesting if we can play a free-traveling adventure. We've played 3D Mario main series and they feature a hub, the rest are side-scrolling games. If I look closely at Super Mario Bros. 3D, it don't seem to feature a hub world. But we won't know until E3 2010.--Prince Ludwig 05:26, 10 March 2011 (EST)

Please avoid talking about things unrelated to improving the article here; chat on the forums. Fawfulfury65

Why are you removing many infos?

When we edit this arcticle...I've notice that some users who tries to add infos, the rest of them are removing stuff, like they don't want to contain more. I'd say...regardless it's useless or useful, we need them.--Prince Ludwig 07:31, 16 March 2011 (EDT)

Only confirmed information can be present in the article. No speculation. I'd say this article has pretty much all the confirmed info in it. Fawfulfury65

Nobody other then me realized that this is the first handheld 3D environment MAIN Mario game? -PokemonMaster
Super Mario 64 DS is. Fawfulfury65
I mean main games.

List of Main Games:

  • Super Mario Bros.
  • Super Mario Bros. 2
  • Super Mario Bros. 3
  • Super Mario All Stars
  • Super Mario 64
  • Super Mario Sunshine
  • New Super Mario Bros.
  • Super Mario Galaxy
  • New Super Mario Bros. Wii
  • Super Mario Galaxy 2
  • Super Mario All Stars 25th Anniversary Edition
  • Super Mario 3DS -PokemonMaster
Super Mario 64 DS is a main game too. SWFlashSWFlash.svg
I pretty sure all main games where listed in the "Super Mario All Stars Book" thing. -PokemonMaster
Is Super Mario 64 DS is a racing game? Party game? Sport game? Education game? RPG? Puzzle game? A fighting game? No? Then what is it? It's platform game. By going into your logic, platform game = main game. SWFlashSWFlash.svg
Super Mario 64 DS isn't a main series game: in the main series each game is different. Super Mario 64 DS and Super Mario All Stars 25th Anniversary Edition are remakes, games similar to the originals (SM64DS=SM64, SMAS (wii)=SMAS (snes)=SMB,SMB2,SMB3,SMBTLL). Artwork of Bowser for New Super Mario Bros. Wii (reused for Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games)MikiuzIggy Koopa
SM64DS isn't remake, it has different story, different gameplay and different stars. By making similarties, I'll say that SMG2 isn't Main game too. SWFlashSWFlash.svg
ok, SM64DS is a main game, but I say this because writing is boring. Artwork of Bowser for New Super Mario Bros. Wii (reused for Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games)MikiuzIggy Koopa

Sorry to interject into this conversation without quite knowing everyone's opinions, but the way I see it is this: Super Mario 64 DS is a remake. Canonically, it "replaced" the original game, per say, in that nebulous Mario timeline that doesn't really exist. Both are main series games, but, as a remake, Super Mario 64 DS does not count as a new adventure. Regarding that list above, Super Mario All-Stars, no matter the version (+ Super Mario World, 25th Anniversary Edition), is a compilation of remakes. Nothing is even changed regarding gameplay. So Super Mario All-Stars doesn't count as a main series game since it's just a retelling of the other games. So, the main series games are as follows, the way I see it:

  • Super Mario Bros.
  • Super Mario Bros. 2 (The Lost Levels)
  • Super Mario USA (Super Mario Bros. 2)
  • Super Mario Bros. 3
  • Super Mario World
  • Super Mario 64
  • Super Mario Sunshine
  • New Super Mario Bros.
  • Super Mario Galaxy
  • New Super Mario Bros. Wii
  • Super Mario Galaxy 2
  • Super Mario 3D

Just my two cents. Thought I'd try to clear this up/give my opinion on the matter. Teamrocketspy621 13:47, 23 March 2011 (EDT)

There's no such term "Main game", there are "Platform", "RPG", "Sport", "Puzzle", "Fighting", etc. (1)First (2)3D (3)platform (4)handheld (5)game (6)which is also not a remake is Super Mario, but isn't it's too complicated? We would say like that on all other articles, for example: (1)First (2)handheld (3)Mario (4)Party (5)game (6)that featured Toad as playable character (you know, what I mean…) SWFlashSWFlash.svg

SM64DS and SM All-Stars(Wii) are just remakes. SM3DS can be considered a "SM645", since SMS=SM642, SMG1=SM643, and SMG2=SM644.--Holyromanemperortatan 21:04, 28 March 2011 (EDT)

They aren't even similar to each other. SWFlashSWFlash.svg

The fact that gameplay is similar doesn't mean it's the same game! Where the heck did you get that SM64[insert number here] idea? Reshiram.pngSupermariofan14Zekrom.png

Well Sunshine may be 64's sequel, so it is SM642. Galaxy 1 may be Sunshine's sequel, so it the third installment or SM643. And so forth with SMG2 and SM3DS.--Holyromanemperortatan 16:04, 21 April 2011 (EDT)

SM64 SMS
File:SMG Manta.jpg File:Flower Grapple.png
SMG SMG2

Show me at least 1 similarity (not between SMG and SMG2). SWFlashSWFlash.svg

They are all 3D world games featuring Mario running and jumping. The controls are very similar: move with analog stick, press one botton to jump, etc. The moves are also similar: ground pound, jump, etc. What makes these games similar is that Mario is a 3D world. Sunshine is a reboot or continuation of 64 as Bowser agian kidnaps Peach, Bowser also now has Bowser Jr. Mario and co. are taking a vacation. You can speculate that after Mario rescued Peach in 64, they decided to take a vacation.--Holyromanemperortatan 12:28, 25 April 2011 (EDT)

We can also speculate that Link from Ocarina of Time has transformed into a bear and appeared in the Banjo-Kazooie. Also your comment didn't make any sence for me. In SM64: You jump around castle finding passages and defeat Bowser for Peach's cake; in SMS you trying to escape from the island becouse imposter (who's later appeared as Bowser Jr.) has painted the whole island; in SMG the Giant Bowser has interrupted the Star Festival to steal Youknowwho and flee to the center of the endless universe (what?), Mario met Rosalina which helped him to get to the Bowser in exchange for a few Grand Stars; in SMG2 there's similar prologue as in SMG, but instad of Rosalina on huge comet he meets some fat-looking purple Luma that reques even more Grand Stars, but it's requed to make Portals to another world, rather than just giving them for no partipicular reason. So as you can see, all 4 games aren't similar. SWFlashSWFlash.svg
"We can also speculate that Link from Ocarina of Time has transformed into a bear and appeared in the Banjo-Kazooie."
...whaaaat? This makes absolutaly no sense. At all. No, we can't speculate that, it's completaly random, impossible and stupid. I won't say any more on this because anyone should be able to see why.
"So as you can see, all 4 games aren't similar."
Wow, you seem to have missed everything he said. I'll repeat: They are all 3D world adventure games. They all have similar controls (moving with analog stick, press one button to jump, etc.) and moves (3D running and jumping, ground pound, etc.). 64 and the galaxy games all require you to rescue (power?) stars (I don't know much about Sunshine). So as you can see, all 4 games ARE similar.
I'm also concerned you think Link and Rare are related in any way. --Lair of Rockwhales 00:21, 1 June 2011 (EDT)
Don't you call someone else's comment stupid. SWFlash's just stating an opinion. Rosalina costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC
Funny, I don't ever recal calling anyone's comment stupid in all bold. If I did, Please do direct me to it, because I fail to find it. Lair of Rockwhales 02:17, 1 June 2011 (EDT)
Also, the speculation about the vacation in Sunshine, from what I've seen, leans to it taking place after Luigi's Mansion, and is linked as such in several articles here. Lair of Rockwhales 02:40, 1 June 2011 (EDT)

Release date?

IGN has the game slated for release on December 31st, 2011. Multiple non-Mario-related games have this date as well, so I'm assuming it's a placeholder until Nintendo confirms the actual release date (the only date confirmed thus far for upcoming games is that of Ocarina of Time 3D for June 19th, but I digress). Obviously, that is what we should wait for, but I felt it necessary to keep users informed. Mario4Ever (talk)

It is a placeholder, as many previous games have had this date before they were released as well. I'm assuming it means that the game will be released before December 31, therefore the date should be 2011. Fawfulfury65
The game's coming out sometime between June 8 and December 31 'cause it comes out this year.--Holyromanemperortatan 12:29, 25 April 2011 (EDT)

That 3DS trailer

You may have forgot already, but there was a trailer where there was some kind of Bowser's battle that starts at 1:16. Some of the gameplay features are very similar to the screenshots from GDC. SWFlashSWFlash.svg

That's just a parody of NSMBW, especially that Bowser battle.--Holyromanemperortatan 18:25, 25 April 2011 (EDT)
The real trailer will debut in June 7, 8 or 9 at E3 2011.--Prince Ludwig 03:19, 1 June 2011 (EDT)

The Boss dude

The official E3 2011 Trailer showed Mario fighting a boss(?) that resemblesd a Boom Booom. Should we add it in as "unnamed boss creature that resembles Boom Boom?" Ratfink43

Yeah, we should Reshiram.pngSupermariofan14Zekrom.png

Should we call the brown mushroom creatures "unnamed mushroom creatures that resemble goombas"? no.It's Boom-Boom.The game has several similarities to SMB3. The only difference is his shell changed, just like the Koopalings. yoshiyoshiyoshi (talk)

I know it's probably confirmed by now, but you can't know if it's Boom Boom or a similar looking enemy, there's no confirmation, even if it looks just the same. Most the theme sounds new. This is the only theme we have so far heard that plays in 2-1. I'm pretty sure the three other levels included in the playable demo had other themes and 2-5 may have had a remix of the Airship theme (unconfirmed).--Holyromanemperortatan 14:13, 10 June 2011 (EDT)

Can you guys really not tell the difference between Racoon Mario and Tanooki Mario? Tanooki Mario has a full suit, while Racoon Mario only has ears and a tail.In Super Mario 3D,Nintendo downgraded Tanooki Mario's abilities because they didnt work good in a 3d environment. As for the Goombas, just wait until the game comes out to name them. yoshiyoshiyoshi (talk)

Huh?

What does it mean when this says will be released on Holiday 2011 in the United States??? 0~o A Strollin' Stu as it appears in Super Mario Sunshine. BoygeyPumpkineer A Smolderin' Stu in the game Super Mario Sunshine.

I think it is suppose to mean Released around the Holidays of 2011... Fuzzy in New Super Mario Bros. UYoshiGo99Artwork of a Yoshi egg on a tilt. It is unknown whether this artwork was released with a certain game or not.

It most likely means around Christmas. Tadaa!2.gifSupremoTadaaa!.gif

When they say Holiday (as in the holiday season), they're referring to November/December. Mario4Ever (talk)

It won't be released in August after all? :(

I was like hyper excited when i found out that this game will be released in Europe in August 2011, but now the European release date is gone. It dossn't even stand TBD like other articles. Is the game going to come out in Europe in August or was that a troll writing speculations? It could be that the release date was correct and some troll removed It. Was the European Release Date confirmed true or not? If yes, who removed it and if no, who stated it in the first place??? User:MarioMaster720

An official source from Nintendo states that is is coming to Europe in August, so it is true, unless it is delayed. Fawfulfury65

What I saw

At E3 I never saw Mario Back Flipping, Crawling and Hanging Ledges. That's what Mario does in 3D Games. Also shouldn't Mario start at his normal size rather than his powered up form. I'll say more later. Thanks. --CuriousMario390 8:18, July 6, 2011 (UTC)

Super Mario 3D Info

Hey guys, I'm new here and I've got some info, Super mario 3d does everything super mario galaxy does. Except into a DS (3DS) system. (P.S. You have you have to press R to go through a pipe. The Tonooki Suit is back including some other retro power ups through a pipe

Here's some more info

Hey guys I'm new here and I got some info on Super Mario 3D
