Waluigi is Luigi's evil counterpart and nemesis. He is Wario's partner. Waluigi made his debut in Mario Tennis and since then he has made playable appearances in many of the Mario series spin-off titles. He has been voiced by Charles Martinet ever since his first appearance.

The details of Waluigi's past are unclear since he has no confirmed back story although, he has evidently been antagonizing the Mario Bros., especially Luigi, for quite some time before his debut as seen in the opening of Mario Tennis where and Luigi confront each other.

Dick Dastardly is a fictional character and antagonist who appeared in various animated series by Hanna-Barbera Productions. Dastardly's most famous appearances are main character in the series Wacky Races (his initial appearance) and its spin-off Dastardly and Muttley in Their Flying Machines. He is essentially a caricature of the English actor Terry-Thomas, and of Professor Fate, a comic villain played by Jack Lemmon in the film The Great Race. The character was voiced originally by Paul Winchell, then by Rob Paulsen and currently by Jim Cummings. Winchell and Cummings have shared another role: Tigger from Winnie-the-Pooh stories. Chikao Ōhtsuka does the voice of Dick Dastardly in Japanese. Winchell's facial structures were caricatured in the character design as well.

Wacky Races
History
In Wacky Races, Dastardly was one of the drivers who competed in each episode for first place in a long and hazard-filled cross-country road rally. As his name implies, Dastardly aimed to win solely through cheating and trickery. His race car, "The Mean Machine", featured all sorts of devious traps for him to use against his opponents. As Wacky Races is inspired by the film The Great Race, so was Dastardly derived from the film's chief villain, Professor Fate, played by Jack Lemmon. Dastardly in this series wore old-fashioned racer's gear — a long blue overcoat, long red gloves, and a large striped hat with driving goggles attached, and sporting a handlebar mustache.
Mario Tennis series
Waluigi made his debut in Mario Tennis. He later appeared in Mario Power Tennis for the Nintendo GameCube, and then Mario Power Tennis for the Game Boy Advance. Mario Power Tennis for the GameCube was the first to feature Waluigi's unique ability to swim through the air, a move that has recurred in other games. Additionally, the title established that his rivalry with the Mario Bros. was violent. Waluigi is playable in the Game Boy Advance version while Wario is not. This is the only time that Waluigi has been in a game and Wario has not.

Mario Tennis
Dastardly was aided in his schemes by his sidekick, a scruffy dog named Muttley who had a distinctive wheezy laugh, heard most often when Dastardly's schemes failed.

In the opening of Mario Tennis, several characters play in a tennis tournament. Wario and Waluigi lurk onto the sidelines of the tournament. They were grumpy that they were both not invited. The two interrupt the final match between Mario and Luigi, and Waluigi states that they want to play. Luigi declines and mocks Waluigi, throwing him into a temper tantrum. Waluigi and Luigi prepare for a conflict and they walk up to each other. Mario tries to stop them, but Wario gets in his way. Suddenly, Bowser falls from the sky, knocking Wario and Waluigi onto the ground. Everyone prepares for conflict, but Bowser innocently reveals he just wants to play tennis, shocking everyone. Mario decides to allow Bowser, Wario, and Waluigi play, and everyone cheers. However, the celebration is cut short when a Bob-omb explodes inside the stadium, harming everyone.

Mario Power Tennis
Despite Dastardly and Muttley's attempts, the "double-dealing do-badders", as the opening narration of Wacky Races describes them, failed to win a single race. Dastardly's plans were always foiled either by his or Muttley's incompetence, the actions of another racer, or sheer bad luck, resulting in Dastardly crossing the finish line last, if at all. On some occasions Dastardly is very close to winning but will fail at the final hurdle. Once Dastardly had an opportunity to win legitimately, but stopped in front of the finish line to pose for his picture as it was a photo finish. Another time he came close to winning the race, but stopped to sign an autograph for Muttley, ending up in fourth place again.

In the intro movie in Mario Power Tennis, Wario and Waluigi are facing the Mario Bros. in the first round of a tennis tournament. They are easily defeated, and vandalize the brothers' pictures in the tournament poster for revenge. They are found and chased by a group of robotic cops for vandalism. On the run from the police, Wario and Waluigi stumbled across Bowser's workout room, where the three formed an alliance to prove their superiority to Mario and Luigi. Bowser forces the two to undergo extreme training, where they improve their tennis skills greatly while the tournament continues.

The duo hijacks the final match of the tournament: the Mario Bros. against Yoshi and Donkey Kong, turning it to a rematch. They are booed and decide to fire Bob-ombs at the Mario Bros. instead of using their tennis skills. Bowser helps them in a giant balloon full of Bob-ombs. However, the Bros. and the other characters hit the Bob-ombs back at Wario and Waluigi with their tennis rackets, blowing up parts of the Peach Dome. Mario then hits a Bullet Bill fired by Bowser, which hits the Bob-omb machine, which topples over and launches a Bob-omb at Bowser's balloon. Full of Bob-ombs, the balloon crashes into the ground near Wario and Waluigi, causing a huge explosion. The three villains faint as a result.
On one further occasion, in an episode which was voted the worst of the series, Dastardly supposedly won the race, but it was revealed he had cheated by extending the nose of his car (even though the actual finish showed no such cheating, implying that the judges possibly had the replay footage altered out of bias. However, in the DVD release of this scene the photo finish was covered with smoke, thereby adding even more questions to this scene). After the replay, the Mean Machine's nose remained extended until Muttley - once more abused by his master after snickering - kicked the nose back into its closed position on Dastardly's hand. This may imply that the "actual finish", not the replay, was altered.

Mario Party series
Often it appears that if Dastardly had not bothered to cheat he may have won fairly. Upon tasting defeat, Dastardly would utter his catchphrases, "Drat, drat, and double drat!", "Triple drat!" and even "Curses, foiled again!" His other main catchphrase was "Muttley, do something!" Excluding Dastardly and Muttley, each of the other racers won three or four of the Wacky Races.
Waluigi has made an appearance as a playable character in every game in the Mario Party series since the third installment except for Mario Party Advance. In Mario Party 3, he could only be played as in multi-player mode but he has been fully-playable from the beginning in all other games that he appears in.

Waluigi's only major appearance that did not simply include him as a playable character was in his second appearance, Mario Party 3 where he first showed his antagonistic feelings. After clearing the penultimate board, Mario and his friends are ambushed by Bowser who announces that the protagonists will have to fight him for the Mischief Star Stamp.
Dastardly and Muttley in Their Flying Machines
Dick Dastardly continued his villainous career in the Wacky Races spin-off Dastardly and Muttley in Their Flying Machines. The series was inspired by the 1965 film Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines and Dastardly's appearance this time was based on the film's villain, Sir Percival Ware-Armitage, played by Terry-Thomas. Dastardly and Muttley, as flying aces, with two other pilots—Zilly, a coward who used to hide in his clothes when he was ordered to deploy, and Klunk, the mechanic/inventor, who was speaking a language mostly composed of strange sounds that only Zilly could understand—comprised the "Vulture Squadron", which tried constantly to stop a messenger pigeon "Yankee Doodle pigeon" from delivering messages to an opposing army, often with the song "Stop the Pigeon" playing; one typical scene shows the "Vulture Squadron" planes all converging from different directions on "Yankee Doodle Pigeon" but end up crashing into one another-while the bird remained unharmed. As in Wacky Races, Dastardly continued to fail miserably at his mission, only coming near to success on a single occasion.
The show is commonly known as 'Catch the Pigeon' or 'Stop the Pigeon', based on the original working title and the shows theme song.

Tumble then realizes the Star Stamp is missing and Waluigi reveals that he has stolen it. Bowser attacks Waluigi for the stamp, but is easily defeated. Waluigi then challenges the other party members to a duel his own board of explosive traps: Waluigi's Island. Despite his efforts, Waluigi is defeated and he forfeits the Star Stamp.
The Fender Bender 500
Dick Dastardly and Muttley were in the "Fender Bender 500" shorts on the early 1990s short-lived series Wake, Rattle, and Roll. In those segments, the duo once again appeared in a suped-up version of the Mean Machine as a monster truck called the Dirty Truckster (a pun on their phrase "dirty trickster"), but raced against such Hanna-Barbera stalwarts as Yogi Bear and Quick Draw McGraw.  In this series, they were actually able to pull off a win when racing to Russia's 'Red Square.' Unfortunately the prize was simply a red square of paper, and not the deed to the Russian capital as the title of 'red square' would imply. In another Fender Bender race (The 'Hit 'n' Mississippi 500'), he plays on Yogi Bear's famous catchphrase of being 'smarter than the average bear' by claiming to be 'smarter than the average cheat'.

Super Smash Bros. series
Other appearances
* In later years Dastardly and Muttley were the nemeses for Yogi Bear and his friends in the 1980s series Yogi's Treasure Hunt. This time, Dick repeatedly failed at discovering hidden treasure before Yogi and his team. It was in this series' episode Yogi's Heroes that Dick's full name was revealed; as the leader of an island named Dicaragua, he introduced himself as Richard Milhous Dastardly (an obvious play on former U.S. President Richard Nixon).
Waluigi made his first appearance in the Super Smash Bros. series in Super Smash Bros. Melee, where he appeared as a trophy collectible via Classic Mode or Lottery.

Waluigi later appears as a Sticker, Trophy, and an Assist Trophy in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. He appears with a tennis racket in hand, which is a reference to his debut in Mario Tennis. He kicks his chosen opponent into the ground. He then finishes up by kicking the victim with incredible power, possibly resulting in an instant KO. He may also hit the player with his tennis racket, instead of a power kick, basically giving the same results. This appearance depicts his color scheme slightly differently than his regular appearances; examples are his brown shoes instead of orange, and his black overalls instead of his overalls with very dark shade of purple. Also, one of Luigi's alternate outfits is Waluigi's outfit.
* Dick Dastardly (alongside Muttley) also appeared as a child (known as Dickie) in the short-lived series Yo Yogi! voiced by Rob Paulsen. In that series, he rides a bicycle that resembles the Mean Machine and his clothes resemble his ones from Dastardly and Muttley in their Flying Machines.

Game & Watch Gallery series
* Dick Dastardly, Muttley, and the Mean Machine returned as a boss car in the Wacky Races video game voiced by Jim Cummings and Billy West.
Waluigi only appears in one game in the Game & Watch Gallery series, Game & Watch Gallery 4. He appears in the games Boxing and Rain Shower. In Boxing he is the final opponent that Luigi has to defeat to claim victory and in Rain Shower he only appears in hard mode. In hard mode he attempts to make things harder by moving the lines around and, therefore, messing up Mario's work.
<br clear=all>

Mario Golf series
* Dick Dastardly made a non-speaking cameo in the Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law episode "Death By Chocolate."

Waluigi proved to be a good golfer in Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour. He was also an unlockable character in Mario Golf: Advance Tour. He could only be unlocked if a Nintendo GameCube to Game Boy Advance Link Cable was used.

In Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour, Wario and Waluigi see the Mario Bros. golfing with Princess Peach and Princess Daisy. Jealous, they challenge Yoshi and a Koopa to a game of golf, determined to improve their game. However, the game goes badly: Wario ends up getting sand in Waluigi's face in a sand trap and Waluigi turns out to be such a bad putter that Yoshi and Koopa end up falling asleep out of boredom. The duo then challenge Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong to a game of golf.

In the TV series Laff-A-Lympics, there was a similar looking (and sounding) character to Dastardly named "The Dread Baron," voiced by John Stephenson. In fact, the similarity caused the translators in Brazil to mistake him for Dastardly (in issue #12 of the Laff-A-Lympics comic book by Marvel Comics, Dread Baron and Dastardly are brothers). The character's name is an obvious pun on the name of the infamous World War I fighter pilot, the Red Baron. In this series, the Dread Baron was seen wearing a World War I-era German fighter pilot's uniform. The Dread Baron accompanied Mumbly, a dog that was very similar to Muttley, only with grey fur, and an orange trenchcoat. Mumbly actually had his own series in which he was a detective, and in a role-reversal, Mumbly acted as the team captain of the Really Rottens in Laugh a Lympics with the Dread Baron and others serving as team members. The two later appeared in the made-for-TV movie Yogi Bear and the Magical Flight of the Spruce Goose, where the Dread Baron and Mumbly are first seen in Dick Dastardly's plane from Dastardly and Muttley in Their Flying Machines. In 2007, Dastardly makes a brief cameo as himself in a Cartoon Network commercial when - complete with a cartoon bomb - he is let into CN headquarters because he has the proper ID with him - beating out Yogi Bear, who has forgotten his ID and can't get in.

Wario hits the ball very hard until it lands out of sight into the forest. Wario and Waluigi start celebrating until they hear a loud roar. The two look up and see Bowser in his Koopa Clown Car, and he has a black eye from Wario's golf ball. Bowser starts firing Bullet Bills at the two until they escape via a yellow Warp Pipe that is too small for the Koopa Clown Car to fit through. Wario and Waluigi come out the other side of the pipe and stop to catch their breath, but Bowser catches up to them and prepares to throw a Bob-omb at them.
It is not certain why Dread Baron and especially Mumbly (who was a good guy in his original series) were used in roles that were identical to Dastardly and Muttley, especially for the Yogi Bear movie. Previously, it was assumed that Dread Baron was created as a substitute because Paul Winchell wasn't available for Laff-a-Lympics where John Stephenson provided the Baron's voice. However, Winchell was available for the Yogi Bear TV movie, yet voiced the Dread Baron, not Dastardly. It's also been speculated that Hanna-Barbera didn't completely own the rights to Dick Dastardly and Muttley and the two characters were in essence shared with another company, Heatter-Quigley Productions, who refused to allow the character names to be used in those specific programs and thus new characters had to be created.

Meanwhile, Mario is preparing to take a shot. Wario and Waluigi try to escape from Bowser by going through an enormous metal door. Mario hits his ball with the golf club, just as Waluigi is able to open the door, and at that moment the ball Mario just hit bounces off Wario and Waluigi's head to Bowser's hand, knocking the Bob-omb down. The Bob-omb explodes on Wario, Waluigi, and Bowser. Mario stands confused as to what caused the explosion, while Luigi, Peach, and Daisy watch in awe.
The Dread Baron also bears some similarities to the Red Max, another character from the Wacky Races series.

Waluigi marks his first appearance in the Mario Kart series in Mario Kart: Double Dash!!. In Double Dash!!, he is available from the get-go, but has to be unlocked in Mario Kart DS. He is a default character in Mario Kart Arcade GP 2 and Mario Kart Wii.

In Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, Waluigi is a middleweight racer. His partner is none other than Wario. His special item is the Bob-omb, and his default kart is the Waluigi Racer.
Dastardly and Muttley were to appear in the show The Perils of Penelope Pitstop, where they (especially Dastardly) would have been perfect villains given the tone and the Perils of Pauline references, rather they were imagined to be the bodyguards of a younger brother of Penelope. However, this was only in the first sketches of the series, and the two did not appear in the final work. At one of their encounters, the Hooded Claw did ask Penelope, "Were you expecting Dick Dastardly?" possibly in reference to the above unshot scene.

In Mario Kart DS, Waluigi is a middleweight racer again, and his karts are the Standard WL, the Zipper, and the Gold Mantis. He is unlocked by completing the Retro Grand Prix in 100cc.

In a manner similar to Dastardly's attempts to catch the pidgeon, each sketch sees Prince Phillip trying to destroy Kate Middleton, Prince William's girlfriend at the time, so as to prevent a 'commoner' from entering the Royal Family. These slapstick attempts usually fail, and usually cause a series of events which ultimately sees Phillip placed in embarrassing situations right in front of the paparazzi, serving to damage his own image rather than Kate's.

While he typically is in the middleweight class, Waluigi is marked as a large-sized racer in Mario Kart Wii, most likely because his long limbs make him very tall. Also, in Mario Kart Wii, Waluigi is given a good acceleration bonus that is tied with that of Toad. He also gets a good drift bonus and a small off-road bonus.

Waluigi went on to appear as a captain in Mario Superstar Baseball. He also appeared as a captain its sequel Mario Super Sluggers. Strangely, whenever Waluigi charged up his hits in this game, they tended to have less power instead of more, though the accuracy increased. Waluigi's pitching skills were top-notch. His strength in the throwing and jumping departments were made known. Waluigi's special move was the Liar Ball: while pitching Waluigi threw both a regular baseball and an eggplant to confuse the batter of their target; when batting, Waluigi would hit both an eggplant and a baseball, confusing the fielders of which ball to catch.

Waluigi and Wario hatch yet another scheme to harm the Mario Bros. in Mario Super Sluggers. While Mario is hitting Bob-ombs shot from a Pitching machine, Wario and Waluigi sneak up and load a Bullet Bill in the Pitching machine. Just as the Bullet Bill is about to hit Mario, much to everyone's surprise, Bowser jumps in front of Mario and whacks the Bullet Bill back to Wario and Waluigi, launching them high into the sky.

Despite having very good pitching abilities, Waluigi is no longer the best pitcher (that spot being taken by Peach and Boo) in this game. Also, his fielding abilities have improved greatly since the predecessor.

Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix
Waluigi played a pivotal role in the plot of Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix. During the events of the game, the strange villain stole the Music Keys from Truffle Tower. Attempting world domination, Waluigi tried to use the keys to make himself a better dancer so that he could "hypnotize the entire world" with his fancy footsteps. However, Waluigi gave three of the Music Keys to other "bosses", retaining only one. He also attacked Mario (or Luigi) and Toad with a barrage of Bob-ombs after the heroes traveled to Truffle Tower to confront him. Eventually, after an explosive dance-off, Mario (or Luigi) defeated Waluigi and recovered the first Music Key. In the beta version, Waluigi swipes them all at the end and it is a huge dance-off. However, Waluigi is defeated and his scheme is ruined. Note this is Waluigi's only game as the main villain.

Mario Football series
Waluigi showed off his soccer skills as a soccer captain in Mario Smash Football and its sequel Mario Strikers Charged Football, where he was a very crude player. While some were a bit startled by Waluigi's behavior, this actually increased his popularity to other players. Waluigi's egotistical attitude was also brought out into the forefront of his character in this series. His Super Ability is Wall-Luigi!, where he creates purple vines to block his opponents from reaching him. He also uses the vines in his Mega Strike.

Mario Hoops 3-on-3
Waluigi also appears as a playable, starting character in Mario Hoops 3-on-3. He is classified as technical, the others being Peach, Daisy, and White Mage. Waluigi's Special Shot is the Twist Dunk which can be done if the player taps the letter "W" twice. Waluigi dribbles the ball in a W shape and then shoots the ball at the basket with a cyclone flying behind it and swims through the air to dunk it through the net.

Mario & Sonic series
Wauigi appears in two of the crossover title games in the Mario & Sonic series as a fully-playable character. He made his first appearance in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games as a character on Team Mario with a perfect skill level, 10/10. He does well in all skill events such as Archery, Aquatics, and Table Tennis. Waluigi's incredibly high skill carried over into the game's sequel, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games where he once again did well in the skill category.

Mario Sports Mix
Waluigi appeared in Mario Sports Mix, which he is classified as a technical type character.  His technique stat is very high, but his other stats are fairly low.  Waluigi can use a unique Special Shot, in which he throws up to four balls/pucks.  Each shot that connects with the goal is counted, and is worth one point each (this adds up to four points if all shots connect), especially in basketball.  In dodgeball, Waluigi's Special Shot can do up to four attacks on his opponents.

While serving in volleyball, Waluigi's serves can only go in a straight line, meaning that diagonal serves aren't possible for him.  And for dodgeball, Waluigi evades dodgeball attacks by spinning his body.

Personal Information
Physical Description and Traits
Waluigi usually wears a purple undershirt under black overalls, orange shoes, and a purple cap that covers short, brown hair. He has a large, pink nose, a thin mustache which is straight (horizontal) and pointed up at the edge (forming an "L" much as Wario's forms a "W"), and gray eyes, surrounded by rings that appear to be a result of insomnia. He also has long legs which sometimes work to his advantage in sports. The yellow symbol on his hat and gloves is a vertical mirror image of Luigi's "L" which forms a "Γ", just as Wario wears a "W" in contrast to Mario's "M". The "Γ" is actually the Greek letter Gamma, which is pronounced similarly to "G" (as in go).

Just like his partner, Waluigi is the extreme form of his rival. While Luigi is tall and skinny, Waluigi is very tall and very skinny. Wario routinely puts Waluigi on a rack to make him even taller. Many biographies describing him in Mario sports games mention (and poke fun at) his odd facial elements, including his sharp jaw, pointy nose, and flat feet.

Waluigi's clothing also breaks the palette-swap color scheme in place from Mario and Luigi. Mario and Luigi have the same colored pants, with their signature colors being opposites (red and green). With Wario and Waluigi, while the signature colors are still opposites (yellow and purple), their pants are not matching colors. Waluigi was designed to wear black pants rather than the purple of Wario (in order to not be monochromatic), which breaks from the previous system of color-coding.

Waluigi's outfit is sometimes referenced by the Mario Bros. In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, by wearing both the "L" Emblem (Luigi) and the "W" Emblem (Wario) together, Mario will wear a purple undershirt and black overalls. The same can be done in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, by switching Luigi's costume.
<br clear=all>

Personality and Etymology
In his first appearance, Mario Tennis, Waluigi was personified as a dark and even sinister character. The only sounds he made were psychotic groans accompanied by dark, twisted laughter. Whenever Waluigi scores a point, his eyes also glow a wicked purple. However, his recent appearances portray Waluigi more as a form of comic relief, often making wisecracks and bearing the brunt of slapstick violence.

Waluigi is a very overconfident character who is easily enraged. He also shows very poor sportsmanship; Waluigi is quick to taunt his opponent, break into victory dance, and cheer for himself; he is easily angered when his opponent makes even a little progress, throwing a temper tantrum. If he wins in Mario Party 8, he holds out a long, red rose, showing that he either has a sweet side or is simply being vain. Wario tries often to make Waluigi more intelligent, but usually fails.

Charles Martinet describes self-pity as "the cornerstone of Waluigi's character," often depicting the doppelganger as constantly pointing out his own disadvantages. Martinet voices the character with this theme to avoid direct hostility, which he feels is unfitting for Mario villains. Ironically enough, most of Waluigi's accusations tend to involve cheating, which he considers himself adept at.

Since Waluigi has the same first two letters of Wario, many people think that Waluigi's name is a clunky offshot of Wario's name. Waluigi actually has a complex Japanese etymology, with many meanings that refer to Waluigi's personality. In Japanese, the "r" and "l" make the same sound, so Luigi can be pronounced in Japanese as "Ruiji", and Waluigi can be pronounced as as "Waruiji". "Waruiji" is a portmanteau of "warui", the Japanese word for "bad" or "evil", and "Ruiji", making his name literally evil Luigi. Additionally, warui, also means to make a condescending apology, instead of a polite apology, referring to Waluigi's arrogance. "Waruiji" is also an anagram of the Japanese word "ijiwaru" which translates to "someone who is bad" or "mean-spirited".

Powers and Abilities
Waluigi is talented at a variety of sports, from tennis, to archery, to soccer. Because of this sports talent, Waluigi has many varied abilities displayed throughout his appearances, and he is usually a technical character in most of the Mario spin-offs he appears in. These range from the simple, such as jumps, punches, and kicks, to the absolutely absurd and zany, such as spinning to make a small tornado, creating thorny vines, and swimming in midair.

Waluigi's standard abilities include jumping, punching, and kicking. Waluigi's legs are shown to be particularly powerful, as he easily defeats Bowser with a kick in Mario Party 3, and he is able to stomp characters into the ground in Super Smash Bros. Brawl with ease, a skill even Mario hasn't yet displayed. He also shows off his legs strength in Mario Smash Football, with his Drop Rocket technique.

Waluigi also has several odd abilities. In Mario Power Tennis, Waluigi can distort his body into the shape of his logo, dance wildly, and create a tornado which would drive his opponent every which-way. He can also swim through the air, an ability which is present in Mario Hoops 3-on-3, as well. In Mario Strikers Charged Football, Waluigi shows the ability to summon and control thorny, purple vines, which he uses for his Wall-Luigi! Super Ability. He also uses them as a whip in his Mega Strike.

In the way of weaponry, Waluigi prefers the Bob-omb, although he also favors the Sparky Sticker. In Mario Party 3, Waluigi used a snippy Piranha Plant in battle. In Mario Party 7, Waluigi used Professor E. Gadd's Coin Vacuum Orb to steal a random amount of Coins from his opponents. Waluigi's special pitch in Mario Superstar Baseball is the Liar Ball, which allows him to throw two balls, one of them being a Whiskered Eggplant. It is rumored that the eggplant can make anyone it comes in contact with vomit.

Relationship with Other Characters
Luigi
Luigi
Luigi is known as Waluigi's main rival throughout their appearances in the Mario spin-off titles. In Waluigi's first appearance in Mario Tennis, it is revealed that those two shared some sort of rivalry. Their chemistry in Mario Superstar Baseball is bad. Waluigi also doesn't treat Mario any better than he does with Luigi.

Wario
Wario
Wario and Waluigi have a shaded relationship with each other. Although it is commonly believed he is his brother, Waluigi’s Super Smash Bros. Melee trophy says that this is not confirmed, and other games have proven them to not be brothers at all. Some sources state otherwise. However, there are several resources that confirm that Waluigi is Wario's brother. On the European Mario Kart DS site, the first sentence of the information of the track Waluigi Pinball describes Waluigi as "Wario's weird sibling". This can also be elaberated on the fact that the two characters look very much alike. However, in Prima's official strategy guide for Mario Party 5 it announces that Wario and Waluigi aren't brothers under Waluigi's character description. In Mario & Sonic at the Winter Olympic Games, it states the two are, as a fact, not brothers. Also, in the Challenge Mode of Mario Super Sluggers, after Wario's team is completed, he names every member of the team, calling Waluigi his "traitor friend" and a "beanpole" after Waluigi tried to keep a treasure chest for himself. After Wario defeats Waluigi in a mission, Wario gets the treasure and Waluigi seems quite happy about joining Wario's team. Waluigi is also on Wario's team in Mario Superstar Baseball. In general their relationship appears to be positive despite frequent bickering between the two tricksters.

Daisy
Princess Daisy

Waluigi and Daisy started appearing as regulars in the Mario series around the same time, and due to this they are often placed around one-another. It is also not uncommon for them to have similar playing styles; they have the same playing styles in the Mario Football series. Regardless of their similar situations, in games like Mario Superstar Baseball, the two share bad chemistry. In Mario Strikers Charged Football, Daisy goes up against Waluigi in Challenge Mode; showing they actually have a rivalry of some kind.

It has also been suggested there may be romantic relations between the two that also deal with their affiliation's with Luigi. They share team names from Mario Party such as: "Awkward Date", "Double Facers", and "Skinny Stars". It was stated in the official Mario Party 4 guide that Waluigi happens to have a crush on Daisy, which could cause trouble at the party. It was also stated in the same guide that Waluigi suffers the same shortcomings as Wario, aside from his soft spot for Daisy.

Trivia
*Waluigi was featured as a recurring character in Wario's Warehouse, a series of articles on the Nintendo of Europe website dealing with various games on Nintendo platforms (not necessarily games with Nintendo characters).
*Waluigi was one of the Mario series characters to appear as spaces in the board game Nintendo Monopoly. Taking the place of Mediterranean Avenue, Waluigi was the least expensive character to purchase, and as such he was also one of the least profitable characters. The cost to purchase him was $60.
*Waluigi is the only human, commonly playable in spin-offs, who does not have an infant form.
*Despite being Wario's partner in many games, Waluigi has yet to make an actual appearance in the WarioWare series or any Wario series titles.
*In New Super Mario Bros. Wii, some of the coin formations resemble the letter on Waluigi's cap; the "&#915;". That is mostly noticeable in World 9-8.

“"Muttley, do something!"”
Waluigi, Wacky Races

Template:One source Template:Original research Dick Dastardly is a fictional character and antagonist who appeared in various animated series by Hanna-Barbera Productions.

Wacky Races

Dastardly was aided in his schemes by his sidekick, a scruffy dog named Muttley who had a distinctive wheezy laugh, heard most often when Dastardly's schemes failed.

On one further occasion, in an episode which was voted the worst of the series,Template:Citation needed Dastardly supposedly won the race, but it was revealed he had cheated by extending the nose of his car (even though the actual finish showed no such cheating, implying that the judges possibly had the replay footage altered out of bias.[1]Template:Or However, in the DVD release of this scene the photo finish was covered with smoke, thereby adding even more questions to this scene). After the replay, the Mean Machine's nose remained extended until Muttley - once more abused by his master after snickering - kicked the nose back into its closed position on Dastardly's hand. This may imply that the "actual finish", not the replay, was altered.Template:Or

Dastardly and Muttley in Their Flying Machines

Main article: Dastardly and Muttley in Their Flying Machines

Template:Copy edit Dick Dastardly continued his villainous career in the Wacky Races spin-off Dastardly and Muttley in Their Flying Machines.

Other appearances

 • In later years Dastardly and Muttley were the nemeses for Yogi Bear and his friends in the 1980s series Yogi's Treasure Hunt.

Dick Dastardly vs Dread Baron

Template:Unreferenced section Template:Original research

File:Dread Baron.jpg
Dread Baron in Laff-A-Lympics. He looks similar to Dastardly.

The Dread Baron also bears some similarities to the Red Max, another character from the Wacky Races series.

Proposed appearances

Template:Unreferenced section Template:Copy edit Template:Original research Dastardly and Muttley were to appear in the show The Perils of Penelope Pitstop, where they (especially Dastardly) would have been perfect villains given the tone and the Perils of Pauline references, rather they were imagined to be the bodyguards of a younger brother of Penelope. However, this was only in the first sketches of the series, and the two did not appear in the final work. At one of their encounters, the Hooded Claw did ask Penelope, "Were you expecting Dick Dastardly?" possibly in reference to the above unshot scene.

Cultural references

Template:Over detailed

 • In an episode of Canadian CGI television series ReBoot, characters Cyrus and Frisket (a dog) "reboot" in a racing game into homages of Dastardly and Mutley, complete with a Mean Machine; when Cyrus is horrified to find Frisket with him, Frisket does a dead-on impression of Mutley's snicker. Later, Cyrus would pilot a gyroscopic flying machine.
 • Universal Studios Florida formerly had a motion simulator ride titled The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera which was a tribute to Hanna-Barbara cartoons; Dastardly (voiced by Michael Bell) kidnaps Elroy Jetson, so Yogi Bear and Boo-Boo have to travel across the various worlds to rescue him.
 • In 1994, British men's magazine Loaded nominated Dick Dastardly as one of the "Greatest Living Englishmen," despite the fact that the character's nationality was never mentioned.
 • An episode of the anime Digimon Frontier, entitled "The Great Trailmon Race" (a homage to Wacky Races), a ShadowWereGarurumon and his Dogmon sidekick attempted to undermine the other racers, as a reference to Dastardly and Muttley, and, at one point in the original Japanese version, ShadowWereGarurumon gives Doggymon a Dick Dastardly-style knock to the head after Doggymon laughs. On a related note, Dogmon's voice actor Michael Sorich made his laughter sound like Muttley's.
 • In the Dexter's Laboratory episode "Dexter's Wacky Races", Mandark replaces Dick Dastardly and his car as the villain with his car "The Dark Man Special".
 • The Nintendo character, Waluigi, bear a strong resemblance to Dick Dastardly.
 • Formula1 champion Michael Schumacher is sometimes referred to by journalists and fans as Dick Dastardly,[2] in part due to the striking resemblance,[3] but mostly because of several incidents involving Schumacher, such as stopping his car in the middle of the track to prevent an opponent from qualifying faster than he,[4] intentionally crashing into opponents twice [5][6]
 • Dastardly was portrayed as David Irving in the Viz strip Wacky Racists.
 • Philip Reeve's 2005 children's novel 'Infernal Devices' refers briefly to a fictional organization called Richard D'Astardley's Flying Circus. This group is supposedly a rival to the Flying Ferrets, led by Orla Twombley, which is a team of daredevil aviators that flies a variety of strange flying machines in Reeve's 'retro futuristic' world.
 • A Super Deformed Gundam short parodying the Wacky Races featured villain Yazan Gable as the stand-in for Dastardly. Gemon Bajack, his partner-in-crime from Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ, was Muttley, complete with dog costume and wheezing laugh. True to the source material, Gable and Bajack spend most of the race trying to foil the other competitors. But they actually win when their last ditch attempt turns out to be a rocket engine. Unfortunately, they are unable to stop in the winner's circle when the rocket malfunctions and won't turn off, sending the pair into orbit.
 • In a curious decision by Spanish language translators, Dick Dastardley was renamed as Pierre Nodoyuna and given a French accent throughout the series. The Spanish name can be barely translated as "Pierre I-can't-succeed".
 • In the underground hip-hop song Accordion by Madvillain, in which MF Doom mentions the duo in the opening line: "Livin' off borrowed time, the clock tick faster, that'd be the hour they knock the slick blaster Dick Dastardly and Muttley with sick laughter, a gun fight and they come to cut the mixmaster."
 • In one of the "1936" animated shorts on the Homestar Runner website, the character of Old-Timey Strong Bad uses Dastardly's catchphrase: "Drat, and double drat!"
 • The 2008 series Headcases featured a series of sketches involving a caricature of Prince Philip dressed as Dick Dastardly and a Muttley-like Corgi named Poochwater.
 • A UK radio ad for Heinz Salad Cream ran the "Stop the Pigeon" theme song before ending with "Any food tastes supreme with Heinz Salad Cream!", implying Dastardly was intending to eat Yankee Doodle Pigeon.
