Syrup, along with all of it's varieties, has appeared in most of the Mario RPG series, as one of the main items in the games. They all have the ability to heal special stats that allow the use of special moves. Usually, the syrups can only heal special stats to one character per syrup.
History
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars was the first game to introduce the use of Syrups and FP. The first syrup featured was Honey Syrup, which healed 10 FP. Maple Syrup, an upgraded version of the Honey Syrup, healed 40 FP. Royal Syrup, the counterexample of the Max Mushroom, heals all FP.
Paper Mario series
Paper Mario
Where as Mushrooms recover HP, Syrups would return the recovery of FP. With three exceptions of the Life Shroom, Dried Shroom, and Volt Shroom, there is a Syrup for every Mushroom in Paper Mario.
- Mushroom (5HP) = Honey Syrup (5 FP)
- Super Shroom (10 HP) = Maple Syrup (10 FP)
- Ultra Shroom (50 HP) = Jammin' Jelly (50 FP)
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, all the syrups found in Paper Mario return in it's sequel with the same healing properties. Plus, the Gradual Syrup, counterexample of the Slow Shroom, slowly recovering FP each turn. The Nitro Honey Syrup also appears, but is never witnessed yet mentioned in Chapter 6 (Supposedly, it is capable of raising the dead.).
Super Paper Mario
Yet again, the syrups reappear in the latest paper adventure, Super Paper Mario. All the syrups, excluding the Nitro Honey Syrup, return, along having the same stats as before. This time, the Sap Syrup and Dayzee Syrup appears, both slowly recovering HP this time, though.
Mario & Luigi series
Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga
In Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, Syrups recover BP. Just like in the Paper Mario series, they have mushroom counterparts. Regular Syrups recover 20 BP. Super Syrups, a more powerful version of the regular syrups, would recover 40 BP. Ultra Syrups, even more powerful, could recover a bros. BP to 100. The Max Syrup, the most powerful syrup, would recover all BP to the given character.
Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story
In Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, Syrups return after being absent from Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time. This time, they recovered SP; the equivalent of Superstar Saga's BP. In this game, they often called referred to as Syrup Jars, which recovered 10 SP. Supersyrup Jars, an upgrade of Syrup Jars, would recover 20 SP. Ultrasyrup Jars are able to heal 30 SP, being more useful than Supersyrup jars. Max Syrup Jars, unlike the Max Syrups from Superstar Saga, could only heal 40 SP rather than all SP.
