Template:Infobox An upcoming Mario Kart game is in development for the Nintendo 3DS. It is the ninth installment of the Mario Kart series and its release date is yet to be confirmed. The players will be able to exchange Ghost Data and play online in multiplayer mode.[1]

Only three tracks have been confirmed.[1][3]
- Unnamed tarmac race course with Peach's Castle cherry trees, and mushroom trampolines from Mario Kart Wii.
- Unnamed mountain track with trees and pipes.
- Unnamed race course replica of Wuhu Island, a place that also appears in Wii Fit, Wii Sport Resort, Wii Fit Plus and Pilotwings Resort.
