Payback is a status effect in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. It is symbolized by a rebounding Purple Arrow on a purple background, which is also the symbol of the Return Postage Badge. When the character is inflicted, all direct attackers will receive half the damage the character recieves, rounded down. There is only one way that Mario can get this: by using a Spite Pouch. Wearing the Return Postage badge does "send back damage", but does not give the Status Effect. The two can stack, sending all the damage back to the attacker. Bobbery's Hold Fast move inflicts himself with it.
Sir Grodus can also inflict this status effect on himself.
