Moonview Highway is a race track appearing in Mario Kart Wii. It is the second racecourse of the Special Cup within the game. The course takes place in and around a lit up city, likely a part of Mushroom City, at night with a full Moon overhead.
Description
Players begin the race traveling through a forested parkway, and due to the darkness of the zone as well as the narrowness of the streets, falling off the cliff or getting hit by a car may be frequent. Just past the parkway is a small red suspension bridge covered in lights over a waterfall leading into the city. Cars and trucks are the main obstacles of this track. If a player collides into these vehicles, they will be knocked over and flattened by them, or even blown up if the racer is unlucky enough to run into a Bob-omb Car.
Track Layout
The entire track is relatively straight. The track begins on a cliffside parkway, and leading up to the bridge are a few tight turns. Racers can go up small sections of the cliffs to get Item Boxes and preform tricks. Shortly after the bridge are toll booths leading into the city which offer boosts of speed when passed through. The city is very wide, and is littered with Zippers or Boost Pads on either side of the road. Item Boxes also appear in the city, going in the direction of traffic. After the majority of the city is a large tunnel, with more boost pads and an onslaught of cars and trucks. The finish line is just past the tunnel.
Trivia
- Among the many billboards in the city, there is a large one that has Princess Peach on it, meaning Moonview Highway could be her home-course. The image of the city is seen behind her with Mario's reflection in the moon. Another clue may be the fact that the player can face Peach as a ghost. When playing as a Mii, these faces are replaced with two Miis from the player's gallery.
- The Shy Guy and Bowser Jr. emblems can be seen on the rails along the city.
- Bloopers appears on many street signs near the lake.
- Some of the trucks reads "Toad Factory", "Moo Moo Meadows" and "Coconut Mall". The license plates[1] on these trucks are as follows:
- The track's theme sounds like a remix of the Boss music for Kirby's Adventure.
- Various billboards advertise objects from Mario games, such as the following:
- A Bullet Bill, on a board reading "King of Speed."
- A Fire Flower, on a board reading "Light your Life." (Strangely enough a Miis head can also be seen when playing as a Mii.)
- A billboard advertising something called "Ballery" with Bloopers and Piranha Plants pictured.
