The Giant Spear Man is, in essence, simply a giant Pirate Goom that appears in Wario Land II (where Pirate Gooms were renamed Spear Men). This large creature was a member of the Black Sugar Pirates, and was Captain Syrup's right-hand Goom during the events of said game.

In battle, the Giant Spear Man would walk back and forth extremely slow, attempting to stab Wario with his spear (much like a regular Spear Man). After ten hits, the Giant Spear Man would surrender, and Wario could continue his looting. Although the Giant Spear Man engaged Wario in many battles, the purple-clad thief always emerged the victor.

Interestingly, the Giant Spear Man was also the guard of Captain Syrup's personal treasure collection. At the end of the game, the large Goom attempted to stop Wario from stealing that treasure as well, but once again he lost to the powerful anti-hero. In the end, Wario got his revenge against Captain Syrup by stealing the treasure the Giant Spear Man was supposed to protect. The movie seen during the end credits reveals that the Giant Spear Man actually became Wario's after the defeat, as it is seen following Wario home and entering his castle.
