In Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, Gloomtail is the older brother of Hooktail and the younger brother of Bonetail. After Mario slays Hooktail to get the first Crystal Star, he wants revenge for the death of his sister. He is seen at the Palace of Shadow, guarding a key to Grodus' lair. He can also charge up for his most powerful attack: Megabreath.
