Luigi demonstrating the use of an E-Gate
You'll find my E-Gates on the way there. Don't be afraid to use them!”
Professor E. Gadd, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon

E-Gates are electronic portals invented by Professor E. Gadd that appear in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. E-Gates first appear in the Secret Mine, but they have a more prominent role in the Treacherous Mansion.

E-Gates are introduced in the mission Hit Rock Bottom as a convenient way of traversing the Crossroads to reach the Skip Slope. Like many of E. Gadd's inventions in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, E-Gates must be activated with a Strobulb flash. Only one gate must be activated for both sides of the portal to be used. When an E-Gate is activated, Luigi can transport himself between the two portals anytime he is near one when X Button is pressed. Luigi can take objects that he has vacuumed with the Poltergust 5000 (such as Bulbs or buckets) through the E-Gate. This is necessary to complete the puzzles in the Treacherous Mansion.
