<< Directory of missions >>

Red-Hot Log Rolling is the fourth mission of Lethal Lava Land in Super Mario 64 and Super Mario 64 DS. The mission involves using a rolling log to reach the Power Star.

Layout

To reach the rolling log from the start of the level, the player has to take the left path at the first split, then the right path at the next. The player then has to cross tilting and sinking platforms to reach a circular platform with a duo of Bullies. Next to that platform to the right is a steel-grated platform that will bring the player through some lava plumes to the rolling log when they stand on it. By standing on the side of the log the player wants the direction of the log to roll in, the log begins to move, though the player has to try to stay on it as they could fall off into the lava. Once the log reaches the end of its rail, the player can use a path that leads to the Power Star. Alternatively, Mario can use his Wing Cap ability to fly to the other side of the grating.

In the DS version, Luigi can use his invisibility power and backward-somersault at the starting point to go through the grating. The player can also ride a Shiny Shell across the lava to get to the Star, but only in the fifth mission or sixth mission.
