Attack Piece Blocks are multi-colored blocks with the letter "A" on their faces that exclusively appear in the Mario & Luigi series of role-playing Mario games. They resemble differently-colored pieces of a puzzle joined together to make a block, and once they are hit, they give the player a single or multiple Attack Pieces at the same time. Before being hit, the locations of every Attack Piece are shown on the mini-map located on the Touch Screen, giving the player an idea of where they are.
History
Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story / Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey
In Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, Attack Piece Blocks are scattered throughout Bowser's body and in places outside Bowser such as Dimble Wood and Peach's Castle. Blocks inside Bowser's body look two-dimensional, while blocks in the outside world look three-dimensional. There are ten Attack Piece Blocks in almost every location; they will give Mario and Luigi an Attack Piece if struck, which will grant a new Special Attack to the brothers when all ten are collected. Sometimes Mario and Luigi can find several of these blocks all at once in the same area, and some Attack Piece Blocks give the brothers more than one Attack Pieces.
They return in the game's Nintendo 3DS remake, Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey, found in the same locations as in the original game.
Mario & Luigi: Dream Team
Attack Piece Blocks return in Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, still giving Attack Pieces to the Mario Bros. when hit. These Attack Pieces, instead of producing Special Attacks, produce Bros. Attacks when all ten are collected, exclusive to Mario or Luigi in the Real World. They also produce Luiginary Attacks for Mario and Dreamy Luigi in the Dream World when all ten Attack Pieces are acquired there from Attack Piece Blocks. They also sport a new design; the bottom-left portion of the block being blue instead of green, the back-left portion being cyan instead of green, the back-right portion being orange instead of yellow, and the top-right portion being green instead of blue. The "A" located at the face of the block now has a small gold gradient, and the face itself is completely black instead of being magenta, resembling the faces of the blocks found in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga.
