The Super Mario Bros. 25th Anniversary was an event taking place throughout the last few months of 2010, celebrating twenty-five years since the start of the mainline Super Mario series with the release of Super Mario Bros. in 1985. There were hints of the anniversary event as early as September 2nd, 2010 with an unofficial announcement of Super Mario All-Stars Limited Edition during a retailer briefing in Japan.[1] A logo for the anniversary was trademarked only a few days later, further indicating there was an upcoming anniversary event.[2] On September 13th, 2010, the Super Mario Bros. 25th Anniversary celebration was officially announced when Nintendo officially revealed Super Mario All-Stars Limited Edition.[3] The anniversary was commemorated with promotional websites, Club Nintendo rewards, merchandise, several new Mario-themed hardware and software, with one of them being the release of Super Mario All-Stars Limited Edition.
The official celebration was concluded sometime in late 2010. The celebration was preceded by the 20th anniversary celebration in 2005 and succeeded by the Year of Luigi in 2013.

- This came bundled with Super Mario History 1985-2010, which contained a booklet and soundtrack CD celebrating the Mario-series history.

In-game events
- A "Make Your Own Mario Flipnote" contest for Flipnote Studio which required participants to create Mario-series themed flipnotes. Chosen winners would then have their submissions commented on by either Shigeru Miyamoto, Takashi Tezuka, or Yoshiaki Koizumi[9]; all of whom worked on and helped create the original Super Mario Bros.
- The Mario Drawing Song was created by Nintendo to promote the Super Mario Bros. 25th Anniversary-themed competition on the application. The song has since been referenced and used in other Mario-related media.
Miscellaneous
- A Japanese commercial was created to promote the Super Mario Bros. 25th Anniversary celebration campaign.[10][11]
- A special Iwata Asks interview between Shigesato Itoi and Shigeru Miyamoto was done for the 25th Anniversary discussing the Super Mario series.[12]
- Various Mario-themed wallpapers were created and available for download on official Super Mario Bros. 25th Anniversary websites.
- A "Super Mario Bros. 25th Anniversary Video Competition" was held for Europe requiring participants to send in a video showcasing why they love Mario. Winners would receive a Nintendo Wii 25th Anniversary Red Edition bundle.[13]
- Japanese 7-Eleven convenience stores sold exclusive Super Mario Bros. 25th Anniversary Nintendo Point cards.[7][14]
- A Super Mario Bros. 25th Anniversary event was held on November 7th, 2010 at the Nintendo World Store and was attended by series creator Shigeru Miyamoto and former Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime.[15].
- Shigeru Miyamoto created a 25th Anniversary-themed Mario drawing to be displayed at the event.[16]
- A Super Mario Bros.-themed cake was created for the event and was cut by Shigeru Miyamoto.
