Template:Missionbox Free Flying for 8 Red Coins is a mission of Shifting Sand Land in Super Mario 64 and Super Mario 64 DS. In Super Mario 64, the mission is the fifth in the course, though in Super Mario 64 DS, it is the seventh and final mission. While the Star number changed, the name and objective of the mission, collecting the course's eight Red Coins, did not, nor did the locations of the Red Coins themselves.

Layout

There are eight Red Coins scattered over Shifting Sand Land. Four of them are on land, and the other four are in the air, requiring the use of the Wing Cap. As such, Mario (or someone wearing Mario's cap) is required to complete this mission in Super Mario 64 DS. Alternatively, the player can use Luigi's backflip, the cannons, and the tornadoes to get the Red Coins. Additionally, none of the Red Coins are located within the pyramid. These are the locations of the eight Red Coins:

  • Behind the player's starting position at the end of a narrow path
  • In one of the blocks at the stone structure
  • In the center of the maze-like paths in the quicksand
  • In the oasis
  • The other four are located in the air.
