- If one counts the alternate team players, Mario Super Sluggers (pictured) has the most playable characters of any Mario game, with a total of 71 playable characters.
- In Mario Kart DS, there is a difference between the intros of the original Nintendo DS and later models. If the game is played on the original DS, Mario says, "Yahoo!" on the Nintendo logo screen, but if it is played on the DS Lite, Nintendo DSi, Nintendo 3DS, or Wii U, he says, "Here we go!"
- The original European version of New Super Mario Bros. got a PEGI 3+ rating; however, due to content regulations in Europe growing stricter over the years, the European Virtual Console re-release instead got a PEGI 12+ rating because of the gambling in the table minigames. This also applies to Super Mario 64 DS.
- Toad's emblem in various games is a mushroom. However, since Mario Party 7, this has often been substituted for his own head.
