It holds the power of red Luma just as the [[Beam Star]]s hold the power of blue Luma and [[Star Ring]]s and [[Spring Star]]s hold the power of yellow Luma. It gives [[Mario]] the ability to fly freely through the air, similar to the [[Wing Cap]] from ''[[Super Mario 64]]''. When obtaining this, his outfit changes. He wears a black cap, black overalls, and a red shirt. Though he flies more freely and his arms send a red trail behind him. He is also able to stop in mid-air, stay in one place, and change direction. It will be used to collect items in the sky.

The Red Star is an item that appears in Super Mario Galaxy. It holds the power of the Red Luma, who first gives Mario the Red Star in the Gate Observatory. It gives Mario the ability to fly freely through the air, similar to the Wing Cap from Super Mario 64. However, unlike the wing cap, the Red Star allows Mario to fly more freely.
