The Land of Ice bears a strong resemblance to Super Mario Bros. 3's Ice Land and Super Mario Bros. 2 frozen tundra levels; like those two, it is filled with snow and ice and high, frozen mountains. King Koopa also had an ice palace in the Land of Ice.
Despite the presence of houses in the area, it is unknown if anyone aside from a Birdo and her baby live there, though Flurries seem abundant, they were simply minions of King Koopa, so they presumably didn't inhabit the Land of Ice.
