The first area, or the beggining of the end

Dark Land is the eigth and last world in Super Mario Bros. 3. You can cheat to get here from World 1 by using two Warp Whistles. It was where Bowser's castle was in Super Mario Bros. 3 and probably still is now. It's called Dark Land because the sun doesn't appear between the volcanos clouds, and one of the areas is completly black on the map, except for a circle around Mario.

The first area has a long line of tanks and Bowser's navy. The second area has the Hand Traps and a fleet of small aircraft. The thrid area is completly black and has the worlds only 2 real levels. It also has a double-sided fortress with doors that lead to the exact other side. The fourth area is in Bowser's Castle's courtyard with the super tanks.

It's pretty much the same as the concept for Mordor, except Dark Land has much more volcanic activity.
