Monopoly Gamer

Monopoly Gamer is a special version of Monopoly with characters and attributes from the Mario universe. While the standard edition is set for release in August 2017, a special Collector's Edition with a Bowser token and a character case was released on June 28, 2017 by Hasbro. Most of the areas on the board are taken from world and level names in New Super Mario Bros. U.

Editions

Three editions of the game have been released as of late 2017:

  • The basic or "Standard Edition" is packaged in a standard-size "long" game box, and includes Mario, Princess Peach, Yoshi, and Donkey Kong movers as playable Characters. It also includes Character cards for all 4 Characters, denoting their "Super Star Abilities" and "Power-Up Boosts", the gameboard, a deck of Title Deeds for the 16 properties on the board, a deck of 8 "Boss Battle" cards, four "Reminder Cards" with quick-start rules and definitions of the Power-Up die sides, two six-sided dice (one numbered die and one "Power-Up" die), 90 cardboard Coins (50 "Golden Coins" worth 1 Coin, and 40 "Five Coins" worth 5 Coins) and a Game Guide with rules.
  • A Walmart-exclusive "Value Pack" Edition comes with all the equipment in the Standard Edition plus an additional Wario mover and Character card, and a poster with exclusive game art on one side, and reproductions of all 13 Character Cards from the various game editions.
  • The "Collector's Edition" (initially exclusive to GameStop locations and ToysRUs.com) comes in a more squared-off and thicker box than the other editions. It includes all four Standard Edition movers plus an exclusive Bowser mover and Character Card. Most of the other components are the same except for a larger "deluxe" Game Guide and plastic Coins in place of the cardboard ones.

Power Pack Characters

Eight additional Power Packs have been released, each with an additional Character mover and card. The Characters so released as of late 2017 are Toad, Luigi, Rosalina, Tanooki Mario, Fire Mario, Diddy Kong, Wario, and Boo. (NOTE: The Wario Power Pack has the same figure and card as the "Value Pack" edition.)

Boss Characters

In all three versions of the game, there are eight Boss characters to defeat. The first seven are the "Koopalings": Larry Koopa, Morton Koopa Jr., Wendy O. Koopa, Iggy Koopa, Roy Koopa, Lemmy Koopa and Ludwig von Koopa. In the Standard and Value Pack editions, the "Final Boss" is Bowser. Since Bowser is a player Character in the Collector's Edition, he is replaced as Final Boss by Bowser Jr..

Spaces

The layout of spaces is mostly the same, except with the following differences:

  • The "Collect $200 salary as you pass" message on the "GO!" space is replaced with a Bowser icon and a "Boss Fight" message appears, prompting the player who makes the revolution to take two coins instead after drawing and following the instructions on a boss card.
  • Mediterranean Avenue is replaced with Acorn Plains.
  • Baltic Avenue is replaced with Yoshi's Hill.
  • Reading Railroad and Oriental Avenue are both replaced with Layer-Cake Desert.
  • Vermont Avenue and Connecticut Avenue are both replaced with Stone-Eye Zone.
  • Saint Charles Place and Electric Company are both replaced with Sparkling Waters.
  • States Avenue and Virginia Avenue are both replaced with Dragoneel's Undersea Grotto.
  • Pennsylvania Railroad and Saint James Place are both replaced with Frosted Glacier.
  • Tennessee Avenue and New York Avenue are both replaced with Cooligan Fields.
  • Kentucky Avenue is replaced with Soda Jungle.
  • Indiana Avenue and Illinois Avenue are replaced with Painted Swampland.
  • B & O Railroad, Atlantic Avenue, and Ventnor Avenue are all replaced with Rock-Candy Mines.
  • Water Works and Marvin Gardens are both replaced with Waddlewing's Nest.
  • Pacific Avenue and North Carolina Avenue are both replaced with Meringue Clouds.
  • Pennsylvania Avenue and Short Line are both replaced with Switchback Hill.
  • Park Place is replaced with Peach's Castle.
  • Boardwalk is replaced with Bowser's Castle.
  • Community Chest spaces have a Super Star icon on them.
  • Chance spaces have a ? Block icon on them.
  • Some Warp Pipe spaces appear that warp the player to any one of other Warp Pipe spaces, similar to the spaces in amiibo Party from Mario Party 10.
  • Some Thwomp spaces appear and replace the tax spaces.

Dice

Aside from the traditional six-sided numbered die, a six-sided Power-Up die is added. It features images of a trio of Coins on two faces, and one face each of a Green Shell, a Red Shell, a POW Block, and a Blooper. Each player rolls both dice during their turn, and can decide whether they wish to resolve their move first using the numbered die, or enact the Power-Up rolled on the Power-Up die. In addition, depending on the Character a player is using, the Power-Up may get a "Boost", as listed on the Character card. Each player has a unique "Power-Up Boost" assigned that may be activated when the listed Power-Up is rolled. EXAMPLE: When one of the Coins sides is rolled, a player normally gets 3 Coins from the Bank. If the player is playing Mario, his "Power-Up Boost" for rolling the Coins side is getting 4 Coins instead of 3.
