Template:SMOlocation-infobox The Sand Kingdom is a desert location featured in Super Mario Odyssey, and the third kingdom acccessed[1]. It is based on real world locations from Mexico, and is the greater location of Tostarena. Its Regional Coins are Pyramid Coins, which resemble the Inverted Pyramid.

The Sand Kingdom was the first location shown in the game, dating back to the first Nintendo Switch trailer.

  • Ice Cave, an underground area with ice platforms and crushing pillars[5]
  • A vast bottomless pit under the ground with Poisoned Water pathways, which can be accessed and traversed by Jaxi[6]
  • A secret cave at the bottom of the desert.[7]
  • Underground Temple, an underground area with ice platforms, ice rotating platforms and moving stone pillars[8]
  • Deepest Underground, the deepest part of the Ice Caves where Knucklotec resides.

The Sand Kingdom has green Power Moons.

There are a total of 89 Power Moons to be found in the Sand Kingdom, some of which are only available after defeating Bowser in the Moon Kingdom. Mario will need to collect 16 Power Moons to power up the Odyssey.

  • 01: Atop the Highest Tower: On top of the highest tower in the Tostarena Ruins.
  • 02: Moon Shards in the Sand: Obtained after collecting all five Moon Shards in the Moe-Eye Habitat.
  • 03: Showdown on the Inverted Pyramid: ❸ Obtained after defeating Hariet.
  • 04: The Hole in the Desert: ❸ Obtained after defeating Knucklotec.
  • 05: Overlooking the Desert Town: On top of a building in the Tostarena Town.
  • 06: Alcove in the Ruins: Found in an alcove beneath the ruins platform with a Bill Blaster and three crates, just after the first 8-bit sequence.
  • 07: On the Leaning Pillar: Found atop a stone pillar in the Tostarena Ruins; accessible by capturing a Bullet Bill.
  • 08: Hidden Room in the Flowing Sands: Found in a secret room hidden under the sand in the Tostarena Ruins.

  • 13: On the Lone Pillar: Found on the top of a pillar which can be reached capturing Glydon.
  • 14: On the Statue's Tail: Obtained by throwing Cappy to a lion statue's tail.
  • 15: Hang Your Hat on the Fountain: Obtained by jumping to the top layer of the fountain and spinning Cappy on the water and holding him there.
  • 16: Where the Birds Gather: Obtained by doing a Ground Pound on the sand mound at the Desert Oasis. There is a lot of yellow birds on the mound.
  • 17: Top of a Dune: Obtained by ground pounding the tallest sand dune to the left of the Tostarena Ruins entrance.
  • 18: Lost in the Luggage: Obtained by ground pounding on a glowing spot close to a New Donker's car.
  • 19: Bullet Bill Breakthrough: Obtained at Tostarena Ruins Sand Pillar; by throwing Cappy to a Bullet Bill, then exploding a cage where the Power Moon is in.
  • 20: Inside a Block Is a Hard Place: Found inside a shiny stone block in the Tostarena Ruins; accessed by destroying the block with a Bullet Bill.
  • 21: Bird Traveling the Desert: Obtained by throwing Cappy at a large bird flying around the Kingdom.
  • 22: Bird Traveling the Wastes: Obtained by throwing Cappy at a large bird flying around the Wastes.
  • 23: The Lurker Under the Stone: Found by throwing Cappy to the moon itself which is trying to escape under the floor but can be seen as an outgrowth.
  • 24: The Treasure of Jaxi Ruins: Found inside a treasure chest accessible after traversing through the Ice Caves.
  • 25: Desert Gardening: Plaza Seed: Obtained by planting the seed in Tostarena Town and then waiting for the seed to bloom.
  • 26: Desert Gardening: Ruins Seed: Obtained by making a second flower bloom in Tostarena Town.
  • 27: Desert Gardening: Seed on the Cliff: Obtained by making a third flower bloom in Tostarena Town.
  • 28: Sand Kingdom Timer Challenge 1: On top of the Bullet Bill maze building (accessible via a Warp Pipe at the end of the Bullet Bill maze).
  • 29: Sand Kingdom Timer Challenge 2: At the Moe-Eye Habitat; obtained by throwing Cappy to a Moe-Eye and stepping on the blue "P" button (for completion, 04: The Hole in Desert must be complete)
  • 30: Sand Kingdom Timer Challenge 3: Found near the wastes. (fastest way to arrive is using the Jaxi at the Tostarena Town).
  • 31: Found in the Sand! Good Dog!: A dog with a fedora is found near Tostarena Town; obtained by doing a Ground Pound where the dog leads Mario.
  • 32: Taking Notes: Jump on the Palm: Obtained after collecting all the Rainbow Notes atop a palm tree in the Desert Oasis.
  • 33: Herding Sheep in the Dunes: Obtained by herding the three lost sheep.
  • 34: Fishing in the Oasis: Obtained by capturing the Fishin' Lakitu and capturing the big fish under the sand.
  • 35: Love in the Heart of the Desert: Obtained by capturing a Goomba and walking to the Pink Goomba on the other side.
  • 36: Among the Five Cactuses: Obtained by using a Jaxi to break the cactus in the top-most center of the map.
  • 37: You're Quite a Catch, Captain Toad!: Obtained by capturing the Fishin' Lakitu and capturing another big fish in the sand (not the oasis). It is not a fish, its Captain Toad.
  • 38: Jaxi Reunion!: Obtained by bringing Jaxi to the Jaxi statue in the southeast corner of the desert.
  • 39: Welcome Back, Jaxi!: Obtained by calling Jaxi to the top of the Inverted Pyramid and taking it to the one corner of the pyramid where a statue is missing.
  • 40: Wandering Cactus: Obtained by capturing a cactus near the south side of the wastes.
  • 41: Sand Quiz: Wonderful!: Obtained by correctly answering several questions asked by the Sphynx by repeatedly talking to it.
  • 42: Shopping in Tostarena: Can be purchased from the Crazy Cap shop for 100 yellow Coins.
  • 43: Employees Only: Behind the counter in the Crazy Cap shop.
  • 44: Sand Kingdom Slots: Obtained after lining up three Power Moon symbols on the slot machines inside a building in Tostarena Town.
  • 45: Walking the Desert!: Obtained after completing a challenge by an unnamed Koopa Troopa.

  • 51: Sphynx's Treasure Vault: Obtained by correctly answering the Sphynx's riddle.
  • 52: A Rumble from the Sandy Floor: Obtained by ground pounding a floor tile in a secret room accessed via a Warp Pipe near the "Overlooking the Desert Town" Power Moon.
