- The Golden Diva's mask (pictured) is an "Okame (or Otafuku) mask", used in Japanese Noh performances.
- Princess Peach, along with her Toad subjects, are the only major characters in the Mario franchise that lost their original localized name.
- Goombas are the only enemies in the original Super Mario Bros. game to have two different "defeated" poses: one showing it being flattened after being stomped by Mario/Luigi, and the other simply being flipped upside-down.
- In Wario Land II, many of the game's treasures are references to other Nintendo games and franchises, like Yoshi, The Legend of Zelda, and Metroid.
