mario mini is a floating head of Mario in the games Super Mario 64 and Super Mario 64 DS, though it is not named until the latter game. In Super Mario 64, mario mini appeared at the title screen, and the player could pull on his facial features, such as his nose. The mario mini is usually smiling merrily and gazing at the player. When the player gets a Game Over, mario mini is dazed and beat up.

In the latter game, Super Mario 64 DS, mario mini is able to turn into an ink outline version of himself, which can be distorted with stylus or various buttons. The player can also erase mario mini and draw his or her own creations.

The mario mini is also a feature in some of the mini-games in Super Mario 64 DS and New Super Mario Bros. It is on the top screen and appears in mini-games that need something to go on the top screen to fill the space. When the player opens a chest in Boom Box, the chest makes a sound, astonishing the mario mini head on the top screen. If the player makes a mistake, the mario mini head frowns, while if the player succeeds, the mario mini head beams at the player. If the player gets a Game Over in any mini-game, then mario mini screams and looks dazed. When a player clears any mini-game round, mario mini is astonished, then bursts out laughing.
