A Pitfall is an item from the Animal Crossing series, that will appear in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. It looks like a white ball with a a big red exclaimation mark on it. Once thrown on the ground, it will disappear. If a player happens to walk over the spot it was buried, a big hole appears underneath them, and they get stuck in the ground. Players can then attack the foe without fear of being hit back. This is similar to Donkey Kong's Headbutt move in Super Smash Bros. Melee. If a player puts the Pitfall on a hovering ledge, instead of trapping a player in the ground, it makes them drop down to the below platform.
