The Yoshi StorybookTemplate:Refneeded is Yoshi's Island when it got turned into a pop-up book by Baby Bowser after he stole the Super Happy Tree. The book is made up of six worlds, called "pages," with four areas for the Yoshis to look around. For the first page, the player can choose one of the four levels in the page, but the other three in the other five pages must be unlocked by finding Hearts hidden in the level. Collecting more hearts will unlock more levels for the next page. This is like a "Choose Your Own Adventure" book, for the player can choose only one level from each page, making the game have at least 24 different endings (not including how many Yoshis are left at the end). The pages and levels in the Yoshi Storybook are:
- Beginning: The first page in the game (hence the name). The environment is friendly, the challenges are easy, and there are many fruits. Players have their choice of going on a treasure hunt, finding some surprises, leaping to new heights via the rail lifts, or try to climb a tower.
- Cavern: The second page is set undergorund, filled with all sorts of nocturnal frights and obstacles. Of course, despite its name, Cavern is only half-cavern, for the other half is made of pipelines. If the player gets all the Hearts from Beginning, they can choose to survive a cave of Bone Dragons, go through a sea of lava while avoiding Blarggs, enter a pipeline with goo and gel on the sides, or navigate a maze with currents of water gushing through vents.
- Summit: The third page takes place at the summit, possibly Kappa Mountain, made up of clouds, snow, and sky. This is one of two pages where the player faces a boss (the boss depends on the level chosen). If all Hearts were found in the chosen Cavern level, then the player can chose to do some cloud cruising, scale an even longer tower, navigate snowy paths with the help of a dog, or go to another snowy area, and try to retain their frustration.
- Jungle: The fourth page, as its name states, is a jungle. In fact, three of the four levels have the word "jungle" in their name. All sorts of jungle life live here, and the environment ranges from inflatable palm trees, to water and many other things. If all Hearts were found in the Summit level, the player can choose to search huts on the jungle outskirts, swim in the more wet part of the jungle while trying not to become lunch for some big fish, navigate through a Piranha-filled forest, or try to go through the deepest part of the jungle with the assistance of wacky creatures known as Neaurons.
- Ocean: The fifth page is set on the ocean. If all three Hearts were found on the Jungle level, then the player can swim underwater with the jellyfish, with a variety of fish, run on land and have fun with the Limbo Guys, or try to outrun Bob-ombs shoot from pirate ships.
- Finale: The sixth and last page in the book is Bowser's Castle, separated into four sections. If the player managed to get all three Hearts from the Ocean level, then the player can choose to go through the machines of Mecha Castle, ride the many lifts of Lift Castle, maneuver through the Boos of Ghost Castle, or face a labarynth of lava in Magma Castle. Whatever the player chooses, completing the level will pit the Yoshis against Baby Bowser in a fight for the Super Happy Tree.
