- A Centaur (half-man, half-horse) power-up was originally considered for Super Mario Bros. 3 (pictured), but was rejected before being implemented into the game.
- In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Gloomtail's room is similar to the spike room in Hooktail's Castle; if the player uses Bobbery at the right end at the wall, a room will open and an Ultra Shroom and a Jammin' Jelly can be collected.
- A Level Editor was planned to be in the original Mario vs. Donkey Kong, accessible through the Nintendo GameCube, but was scrapped.
- The Sunken Ghost Ship in Super Mario World is actually one of the Koopalings' Airships from Super Mario Bros. 3, according to the manual.
