- After the release of Super Mario 3D Land, the animal rights group PETA created a website and Flash game entitled "Mario Kills Tanooki" (pictured) to promote their anti-fur campaign with regard to the live skinning of raccoon dogs or tanukis. The site implied that Super Mario 3D Land was promoting the use of animal furs as clothing by allowing Mario to use the Tanooki Suit as a power-up, although it originated in Super Mario Bros. 3, which was released in 1988 (23 years prior to the release of Super Mario 3D Land). This controversy among the issue resulted in strong backlash from Nintendo.
- Mount Wario is the first Wario-themed course in the Mario Kart series to not have Wario as the staff ghost (the staff ghost for this course is Waluigi).
- Beldam is the only one of the original Shadow Sirens in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door to not have a common name.
- Major Burrows' voice was provided by Koichi Hayashida, the game director of Super Mario Galaxy and its sequel.
