Template:Species-infobox Template:Articleabout Polterpups are medium-sized, ghost dogs that appear in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. They are one of the many ghosts living in Evershade Valley, and are normally friendly, but when the Dark Moon shattered, they started causing mischief. There is one main Polterpup that appears throughout story mode, but other Polterpups only appear in some locations of Haunted Towers.

Polterpups also appear in the ScareScraper. In the ScareScraper mode, they are featured in their own mode: Polterpup Mode. In Polterpup Mode, the Luigis must hunt down as many Polterpups as possible by using their Dark-Light Devices to see the footprints. Once a Polterpup has been located, he must be flashed with the Strobulb and vacuumed up. Each Polterpup has 40 HP, but Luigi can find a Big Polterpup, which has 80 HP.

Regular and Big Polterpups in ScareScraper mode always drop a Gold Bar when captured, even if the Poltergust 5000 is at minimal power. This means that they will drop an additional Gold Bar on top of whatever Power Surge a Luigi uses to drain its health, from two Gold Bars from a Blue Surge up to four from a Red Surge. A Polterpup drops six Gold Bars if it is captured with another ghost from a Red Surge.

Appearance

Polterpups are shown as white, slightly transparent canine-like ghosts. Polterpups' eyes are white and opaque, which makes them stand out against their transparent bodies. Unlike real dogs, Polterpups lack ears, thus their head is completely rounded.

Ghost Container Description

ScareScraper

Polterpup: Normally playful and kind, these Polterpups started misbehaving after the Dark Moon shattered.

Big Polterpup: This pooch is very big, so it might take more than one ghost hunter to keep him under control!

Trivia

  • According to a Swapnote message sent by Shigeru Miyamoto, the Polterpup is his favorite ghost.
  • Polterpups leave invisible imprints when they jump through walls, floors, or ceilings, similarly to Slimer from Ghostbusters.
