- The rock formations on top of the two mountains in Toad Road (pictured) from Mario Party 9 are shaped like an "M" and "P", and the island is shaped like a 9, standing for the game's title.
- In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, if Cortez's Rapier attack missed the character in front (due to a Lucky), the character in the back will automatically perform a Guard.
- Prince Haru from Super Mario Bros.: Peach-hime Kyushutsu Dai Sakusen! is the only character in the Mario series other than Mario with whom Princess Peach has a romantic relationship.
- In the Japanese version of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Larson's house had a Toad-shaped chalk outline and dried blood on the floor. This was removed in the North America version.
- The music for Bowser's Galaxy Reactor is a remix of Super Mario Kart's SNES Rainbow Road's music as a dark remix, this also happens in Super Mario Galaxy 2's Bowser's Galaxy Generator as another dark remix as well.
