Bristles are spiked monsters made of rock and are found in the game Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. They have high defense, and if Mario tries to attack one with his hammer, he'll end up hurting himself, as a spike pops out from the Bristle once the plumber gets near. This monster is also impervious to jump attacks and fire. The Special Move Earth Tremor defeats a Bristle, as well as a POW Block or an Earth Quake. Mario can even defeat them by simply using Superguards, as their HP is very low. Although Mario cannot normally use a hammer attack, he can use any hammer attack if he is equipped with the Spike Shield badge - the Bristle (and Dark Bristle) do not attempt to poke him with its spikes if he is equipped with this badge. If Mario attacks one with a Sleepy Sheep, the Bristle's spikes still protrude while asleep.

Bristles are spiked monsters made of rock and are found in the game Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. Similar to Clefts, Bristles have spiked tops, high defense, an immunity to fire attacks, and can be flipped over by an earthquake or an explosion. Unlike Clefts, Bristles do not lose their top-spiked defense when flipped and are also immune to close-range attacks like Gulp and Mario's Hammer, as their large side-spikes pop out to protect against approachers (even when the Bristle is asleep).

Despite their copious defenses, Bristles have very low HP and are easily taken out with POW Blocks, Earth Quakes, or Earth Tremor. Mario is also capable of simply hammering them should he have the Spike Shield badge equipped, though without Power Smash, Piercing Blow, or the Ultra Hammer it will do no damage.
