Spray Fish are blue fish in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3 and Yoshi's Island DS. They appear in several fortresses and castles, and also appear in the Island Museum. They shoot out a diagonal jet of water. It is almost like a wall and impossible to go through. To get past it, the player must wait for them to submerge or shoot an egg at their head. They themselves can hurt Yoshi, but the water pushes Yoshi back.
It's possible they're related to Cheep-Cheeps and the Blue Blurps from Yoshi's Story. Hot Lips (from the original Super Mario World 2) may also be a lava version of the Spray Fish (as it has an identical, though much more dangerous, attacking pattern).
Trivia
- The "Spray Fish" is most likely based off the real life "archerfish", that spits water to make insects fall into the water to eat.
