These are the beta elements for Mario Kart 64.

Beta Version

Kamek was going to be in this game as a playable character, but got replaced by Donkey Kong. Also it should be noted that the Character select screen was going to have the racer face towards the player. The working title was Super Mario Kart R. In certain gameplay screenshots, the Cape Feather Item, which appeared in Super Mario Kart, was going to be included in the list of items of the game. Boos from Banshee Boardwalk had also a different look. The HUD was different from the final version. Item boxes were also completely black with colored question marks on them.

Beta Elements

There is a strange debug menu that remains in the games coding. It has a few more options than the regular gameplay would have, some of the extra options are unused. It can only be accessed by cheating. There is also a bizarre vertical splitscreen that appears to be unfinished. If battle mode were entered with vertical splitscreen than it would still show laps. Also when drifting (VVVEEEEEE) in vertical splitscreen will not show the "VVVEEEEEE.
