Big Bertha is a character in the Super Mario Bros. movie. As the bouncer of the Boom Boom Bar, she wears a thick, red leather outfit with spikes. Mario and Luigi first encounter her when they are being robbed by an elderly woman, who wished to take Princess Daisy's necklace. Bertha tosses the old woman away and steals the necklace herself. Before Mario can act, Bertha escapes using her Thwomp Stompers.
Mario and Luigi track Big Bertha down to the Boom Boom Bar, where she works. They find her dancing about, and when Mario tries to flirt with her, she quickly rejects him. However, his persistence gets to her, and she orders him to dance with her. After several failed attempts at getting the necklace back during the dance, Mario is finally able to grab it away. Suddenly, Lena and a group of Goombas appear, and Big Bertha aids Mario and Luigi in their escape, allowing them to use her Stompers. During the final confrontation with King Koopa, Big Bertha aids Luigi by once again allowing them to use her Stompers.
Big Bertha was portrayed by Francesca Roberts.
Trivia
- Big Bertha is named after the fish from Super Mario Bros. 3. Much like the fish's depiction in the Nintendo Comics System, Big Bertha had a crush on Mario.
