You can do it on World 6, Fortress #1, if you have near-perfect timing. You release the Starman and then run and acquire it just as it is near its rightmost bounce, and duck just after you get it to slide under the low block, and then run fullspeed to Boom Boom. Just tried it in Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3 and it appears right-side up. Possibly an unintended glitch in the original game. Theory: When you destroy enemies with Starman their sprites turn upside down and then they fall off the screen. Perhaps the ? Ball is the same sprite as Boom Boom, and since he is a special boss, he teleports to the center of the screen, turns upside-down and explodes, visibly showing a small explosion animation, an array of stars, and the upside-down ? ball. Name.[edit]

I'm not so sure about "? Ball", but it's called the "Crystal" in Mario Mania (pages 136 and 137). LinkTheLefty (talk) 18:37, 9 October 2014 (EDT)
