The "successful" outcome needs adding to the page. It may only be a small chance of success, but it does let you run away occasionally. I'm nowhere near that part in the game, otherwise I'd check myself. Thanks! Avengah 05:10, 30 December 2011 (EST)

:The battle is most likely a pokemon reference, because you see your HP and level, you can use items, you can't dodge yorself by hitting buttons but sometimes you automatically dodge, sometimes attacks miss, you can switch characters, using piccolo is like a pokemon move called Sing, it says stuff like "Underchomp attacks!", you can run away but there is a chance you may fail, abilities like Bowser's fire breath are like Pokemon abilities and the Underchomp has an element (fire for the red and blue Underchomps and poison for the yellow one).M&L Beware my fury! 16:12, 28 January 2012 (EST)
It would more likely be a Mother reference (see above) due to the text box, the fact many RPG's use "___ attacks/attacked!", Sleeping, Dodging, Elements, Missing, Seeing your stats, techniques unique to characters and running are quite common among RPG's. The above Mother topic shows a lot of evidence of why it is more likely to be mother 3.

Would that not mean the same as having three Chomps tied to one post? Or am I missing something (which I probably am?) Lord Grammaticus (talk) 02:45, 15 December 2013 (EST)
:It wouldn't mean the same. But the Underchomp really isn't a three-headed Chain Chomp, just three seperate Chain Chomps tied to the same post. If it was one entity, defeating just one head would kill the entire thing, but you have to defeat all 3, indicating they are 3 seperate entities tied to the same post. The post is just what they tie Chain Chomps too, they arre not part of the Chain Chomp itself. the act of "playing" piccolo to put the underchamp to sleep might be a refrence to harry potter and the philophisers stone where music puts fluffy (another cerberus-like 3 headed dog) to sleep Dstroyer 666 08:15, 19 September 2007 (EDT)
- That itself is based in Greek myth. Both stories are based on that myth. This has been reproduced many times throughout literature. -- Son of Suns
Pokémon[edit]
Mother/EARTHBOUND? your having a laugh! It's a... POKéMON REFERENCE! LucariosAura (used to be specialk) 11:21, 24 February 2010 (EST)
- IMO, the battle doesn't look like a Pokémon battle at all; you can't see your character, there are no attack animations, etc. It's a lot more similar to Mother than Pokémon, though it seems more like a reference to classic RPG games in general (Mother is by far not the only game with battles like this; they don't look like this at all in Pokémon, however).--vellidragon 11:33, 24 February 2010 (EST)
- It is pokémon. It said "Underchomp Attacked!" when you see it. (Pokémon Ranger) You see levels on it. (All Pokémon Games). You choose attacks clearly. The music (need i say?) is an 8 bit remix of Pokémon Battle/Mario Theme. Falling asleep (tune sounds like a move called Sing). "Special Moves" (Signiture moves).
