==Black Key==
[[Image:PM2_BlackKey.jpg|thumb|right|Mario obtaining the '''Black Key'''.]]
'''Black Keys''' are items in ''[[Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door]]'' that open the four [[Black Chest|Black treasure chests]]. Each chest contains a [[Black Chest Demons|Black Chest Demon]] that "curses" [[Mario]] and gives him a new Paper ability on the field. The keys are usually easy to find and shouldn't be too far from the chest.

There is no known reason why the keys exist, since the [[Shadow Queen]]'s curse was supposed to leave them trapped for eternity.

The '''Blue Key''' is a key found in the ''[[Paper Mario]]'' series.

In the original ''Paper Mario'', the Blue Key opens the blue door in the [[Crystal Palace]].
Fedora Kong is a fairly nondescript Kong character with brownish fur and light skin. He possesses the ape-like traits and proportions characteristic of his species, namely a sloped and extensive brow ridge, long, muscular arms, and spots of thinner hair on his hands, feet, and face. He also has thinner hair on his chest and midsection. Uniquely and as per his name, Fedora Kong wears a fedora on his head, which affects a very businesslike persona. Though it is not clear why Fedora Kong dresses in this manner, it could be inferred that, had he actually been featured in the game, he could have been a resident of the world Big Ape City within the game.

In ''[[Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door]]'', the Blue Key is located inside [[the Great Tree]], in the room after the small [[Jabbi]] army. The key opens the cage where ninety [[Puni]]s are imprisoned, increasing [[Mario]]'s Puni army from eleven to one-hundred and one.

[[Image:Castle_Bleck_Key.jpg|thumb|left|Mario acquiring the '''Castle Bleck Key'''.]]
The '''Castle Bleck Key''' is a key found in the game ''[[Super Paper Mario]]''; it is used for opening the door leading to the [[O'Chunks]] fight. It is found in a [[Treasure Chest]] in [[Castle Bleck]]. [[Soopa Striker]]s guard the treasure chest of the key.

Another key appears in the [[Castle Bleck Foyer]] going to the boss fight against [[Mimi]].

==Elevator Key==
[[Image:Elevatorkey.gif|frame|right|]]
The '''Elevator Key''' is a small key found in [[Riverside Station]] during the events of ''[[Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door]]''. [[Mario]] must retrieve it in order to operate the elevator in the front room of that station – the elevator will then take him to the switch that lowers the drawbridge that is delaying the train. This key was seemingly hidden by the [[Smorgs]] to stop and slow down Mario in his mission.

==Fortress Key==
[[Image:Fortress_key.PNG|frame|left|Mario, holding a '''Fortress Key'''.]]
'''Fortress Keys''' are used to open doors in the [[Koopa Bros. Fortress]] in ''[[Paper Mario]]''. There's four throughout the area, and each need to be used to progress. The [[Koopa Bros.]] hid some keys behind bars, and left some to be guarded by enemies.

The keys can only be used in the Koopa Bros. Fortress.

==House Key==
[[Image:PM2_HouseKey.gif|frame]]
The '''House Key''' is an item that [[Mario]] must find to complete a [[Trouble Center]] mission during ''[[Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door]]''. [[Garf]] lost his House Key, so he can't get back into his house. After Mario returns the key to Garf he rewards Mario with twenty [[coin]]s. The key is found near [[Zess T.]]'s house in front of the [[Lovely Howz of Badges]].

==Key==
There are dozens of different '''keys''' for castles and fortresses all across [[Mushroom World]].

[[Image:Thumb key.jpg|frame|A '''Key''' from ''[[Super Mario Bros. 2]]'']]
''[[Super Mario Bros. 2]]'' is the first [[Mario]] game with keys and locked [[Door]]s. [[Phanto]]s will always be guarding keys, so until the player drops a key or unlocks a door, a [[Phanto]] will be chasing the player. Keys are always in view -- never under a [[Vegetable]].

===''Super Mario World''===
In ''[[Super Mario World]]'', the [[Keyhole]]s would turn into a gigantic portal when a key came into contact with it.

===''Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island''===
[[Image:YIDS_Key.jpg|left|thumb|80px|A '''Key''' from ''Yoshi's Island DS''.]]
In ''[[Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island]]'' and its [[Yoshi's Island DS|sequel]] the keys unlocked doors, but when a castle boss was defeated a large key would appear and act the same as ones in ''[[Super Mario World]]''.

===''Super Mario 64 DS''===
In the game ''[[Super Mario 64 DS]]'', [[Rabbit]]s steal keys. The first key [[Yoshi]] has to obtain unlocks [[Princess Peach's Castle]]; only after he catches that first rabbit can he get inside. There are many other rabbits that can be found in the game, but they only unlock [[minigames]]. The next keys Yoshi must collect are held by various bosses, and are used to free [[Mario]], [[Luigi]] and [[Wario]]. Finally, the first two times [[Bowser]] is defeated, he will give Mario and his companions key to different floors of the castle.

===''Luigi's Mansion''===
In ''[[Luigi's Mansion]]'', [[Luigi]] had to collect many keys before he could advance to other rooms. They were usually found in [[Treasure Chest]]s, although some could be found right out in the open.

===''Mario Party'' series===
[[Bowser]] owns various keys in the [[Mario Party (series)|''Mario Party'' series]]. These so-called Bowser Keys are usually found in [[Bowser Mini-Game]]s, and are necessary to escape from Bowser. In earlier ''Mario Party'' games, Bowser Keys are simply keys shaped like Bowser's head. In later games, they are engraved with Bowser's likeness.

===''Super Smash Bros. Brawl''===
[[Image:BrawlKey.jpg|thumb|100px|Artwork of the '''Key''' from ''Super Smash Bros. Brawl''.]]
In the Subspace Emissary mode of ''[[Super Smash Bros. Brawl]]'', Emissary Keys are found somewhere near locked gates. If the player finds a key and tries to go through the gate while having it in his or her hand, the gate will become unlocked.

==Luigi Key==
{{image}}
The '''Luigi Key''' is an item in ''[[Super Mario 64 DS]]''. The Luigi Key is the second key to be retrieved in the game. The Luigi Key was created by [[Bowser]] and given to [[King Boo]] and his army of [[Boo]]s after they caught [[Luigi]] and trapped him behind his door. The key was brought to [[Big Boo's Haunt]], where Mario had to get into a secret room using a [[Power Flower]] and navigate through a maze to find King Boo, and defeat him. The Luigi Key is made of gold with a "L" in the center of it, as well as a [[Luigi Hat]] on top of it. Once the player unlocks Luigi's door with this key, the Luigi Hat will appear in courses.

==Mario Key==
{{image}}
The '''Mario Key''' is an [[item]] in the game ''[[Super Mario 64 DS]]''. The Mario Key is the key that unlocks the door that [[Mario]] is trapped behind. The Mario Key is obtained first by [[Yoshi]] after collecting eight [[Power Star]]s and getting into the room behind the Princess's [[Rec Room]] and defeating [[Goomboss]] inside the portrait. The Mario Key was created by [[Bowser]] and given to Goomboss and his [[Goomba]]s to trap Mario after they caught him. After the defeat of the Goombas, they retreated, leaving the key behind. The key is about the size of Mario, and it's made of gold with a large M in the center of it. It also has a [[Mario Hat]] on top of it. Once Yoshi retrieves this key and brings it to the door Mario will be freed. Also, Mario Hats will now appear inside courses if the player is someone other than Mario.

==Odd Key==
[[Image:Odd_Key.PNG|frame|right|An '''Odd Key'''.]]
The '''Odd Key''' is a [[key]] found in the blue locked house, named the "Odd House", next to [[Tayce T.]]'s house in [[Toad Town]] in the game ''[[Paper Mario]]''. The key is a backdoor to [[Rip Cheato]]'s room and a shortcut to the end of [[Toad Town Tunnels]] (since the start of the sewers pipe is right in front of the locked house).

==Palace Key==
[[Image:Palace_Key.PNG|frame|left|]]
A '''Palace Key''' is an item in ''[[Paper Mario]]'' and ''[[Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door]]''. Palace Keys are needed to open doors in the [[Crystal Palace]] and the [[Palace of Shadow]].

==Pedestal Key==
[[Image:Pedestal Key.PNG|frame]]
'''Pedestal Keys''' are [[Palace Key]]s found in the [[Riddle Tower]] of the [[Palace of Shadow]] in ''[[Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door]]''. The [[Star Key]] is required for [[Mario]] to unlock the pedestals. Unfortunately, [[Gloomtail]] is guarding it (or rather, swallowing it), so Mario and his pals had to defeat Gloomtail to get the Star Key. By placing the 8 Pedestal Keys in the pedestals, Mario will unlock the secret path to the [[Shadow Queen]]'s throne room (and crypt, which is hidden behind her throne).

==Random House Key==
[[Image:Random_House_Key.jpg|thumb|left|The '''Random House Key'''.]]
The '''Random House Key''' is a key obtained in an optional sidequest for receiving [[Piccolo]] the [[Pixl]] in ''[[Super Paper Mario]]''. To get it, the player must give [[Merlee]] the [[Crystal Ball]] that they receive from [[Merluvlee]]. This key unlocks a house in [[Flopside]]. In the house is a chest where Piccolo is imprisioned.

==Red Key==
[[Image:Redkey.gif|frame]]
The '''Red Key''' is an item found in the [[Paper Mario (series)|''Paper Mario'' series]].

In the original ''[[Paper Mario]]'', the Red Key unlocks the red door in the [[Crystal Palace]].

[[Image:Red Key.PNG|frame]]
In ''[[Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door]]'', another Red Key unlocks the cage the [[Puni Elder]] was imprisoned in during [[Lord Crump]]'s invasion of the [[Great Tree]]. It can be found in the storage room just west of the prison.

==Ruins Key==
[[Image:1ruinskey.jpg|frame|left|The '''Ruins Key'''.]]
'''Ruins Keys''' are old keys from ''[[Paper Mario]]'', found in the [[Dry Dry Ruins]]. They are used to open several doors to advance to the boss of the ruins named [[Tutankoopa]].

==Shop Key==
[[Image:Shopkey.gif|frame|]]
The '''Shop Key''' is an item in ''[[Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door]]''. It is used in Chapter Four, when [[Mario]] must advance in [[Twilight Trail]], but a fallen tree is in the way. Finding a Shop Key, Mario finds out by the shopkeeper of [[Twilight Town]]'s shop and is given permission to use it his [[key]] the shop's storage room. Finding lots of [[items]], they find [[Black Key|a key]] to open a [[Black Chest]], which gives Mario and his partners the [[Tube]]<nowiki>Insert non-formatted text here</nowiki>--[[User:Paper Boo Guy|Paper Boo Guy]] 11:46, 16 August 2009 (EDT)--[[User:Paper Boo Guy|Paper Boo Guy]] 11:46, 16 August 2009 (EDT) ability.

==Skeleton Key==
[[Image:SkeletonKey.JPG|thumb|left|The '''Skeleton Key''' from the ''Mario Party series''.]]
The '''Skeleton Key''' is a [[key]] featured in two of the [[Nintendo 64]] games of the [[Mario Party (series)|''Mario Party'' series]], and is [[Luigi]]'s favorite item. The Skeleton Key can unlock special doors throughout the various boards, usually for opening up secret paths or shortcuts. In order to use a Skeleton Key, a player must reach a door and choose to use it.

First appearing in ''[[Mario Party 2]]'', it had a bow on its head, indicating that it was a female. In ''[[Mario Party 3]]'', it had big black eyebrows, assuming that it was now a male.

The Skeleton Key hasn't appeared since ''Mario Party 3''. The item was replaced by the [[Mini Mushroom]], which allowed partiers to access new paths via [[Warp Pipe|Mini Pipe]]s.

They only way to discard an unwanted Skeleton Key in ''Mario Party 2'' is by using it on a door, even if the player doesn't wish to travel through it. In ''Mario Party 3'', it became possible for players to "use" a Skeleton Key on their turn like a normal item, which gave them the option to throw them away.

The Skeleton Key is the only item that is always for sale at an [[Item Shop]], regardless of whether or not [[Toad]] or [[Koopa Kid|Baby Bowser]] is running it. The exception to this rule are the shops in [[Bowser Land]] where Baby Bowser forces players to buy a particular item.

==Station Key==
[[Image:Fsgdfgdfg.jpg|thumb|]]
In ''[[Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door]]'', the '''Station Key''' is the [[key]] that opens a door in the [[Riverside Station]]. It is not important in the game and it is very minor.

==Steeple Key==
[[Image:Steeplekey.gif|left|thumb|]]
[[Image:Steeplekey2.gif|thumb|]]
A '''Steeple Key''' is a [[key]] that unlocks a door in the [[Creepy Steeple]] in ''[[Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door]]''. There's two versions, one that works in the regular building, or the one for the basement.

==Storage Key==
[[Image:PM2_StorageKey.gif|frame|left|]]
A '''Storage Key''' is a special type of key found in the game ''[[Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door]]''. Two Storage Keys appeared in the game; both were located in [[Glitzville]]. The first one is found in the phone booth after [[Mario]] gets an e-mail from "[[X]]". That key opens the door to the Storage Room. The second key is found behind one of the posters on the top level of the [[Glitz Pit]] after Mario gets another e-mail from "X". That key opens the door on the second floor of the Storage Room.

==Storeroom Key==
[[Image:PM_StoreroomKey.JPG|right|frame|The '''Storeroom Key''' from ''Paper Mario''.]]
The '''Storeroom Key''' is a special item found in ''[[Paper Mario]]''.

After [[Mario]] rescues the third [[Star Spirit]], [[Skolar]], he goes back to [[Toad Town]], as usual. To his surprise, there's local havoc going on, as [[Shy Guy]]s have random started to appear and do mischief all over the place, stealing from townsfolk and just doing pranks overall. As Mario is walking over to [[Harry T.]]'s shop, a Shy Guy comes running out of it. Mario soon finds out this Shy Guy has stolen Harry T.'s Shop Storeroom Key, and is unable to open the storeroom. The Shy Guy, additionally, has hidden the key somewhere in the [[Shy Guy's Toy Box]].

As Mario approaches the room which the stolen Storeroom Key lies, [[Kammy Koopa]] flies by on her broom and uses her magic to place an enemy or an item to "guard" the place. What Kammy Koopa makes appear is influenced by [[Princess Peach]]'s answers to what Mario dislikes during Chapter 3's end. Kammy Koopa isn't exactly sure about whether Mario truly hate what she places, but has no option but to follow the commands of the [[Koopa King]]. Mario, brave as he is, recovers the Storeroom Key and gives it back to Harry T., who gratefully lets Mario whatever is inside the Storeroom for him to keep. While this sounds pretty minor to the story, it's actually needed for the storyline to progress: Inside Harry T.'s Storeroom was the [[Toy Train]], which would later allow Mario to travel from one station to another inside the Toy Box.

==Warehouse Key==
[[Image:Warehousekey.gif|frame|right|]]
The '''Warehouse Key''' is an [[item]] that appears in ''[[Paper Mario]]''. It opens a warehouse in the eastern part of [[Shiver City]].

When Mario must reveal who murdered [[Mayor Penguin]], he'll come across a locked door. He'll also stumble across a key trapped underneath Shiver City's frozen pond. To break the ice, Mario must [[Tornado Jump]] on the lake the times, or blow it up with [[Bombette]]. Once the ice is shattered, Mario can dive down the key with [[Sushie]] to claim it.

==Wario Key==
{{Image}}
The '''Wario Key''' is an item in the game ''[[Super Mario 64 DS]]''. The Wario Key was created by [[Bowser]] and given to [[Chief Chilly]] and his gang after they captured [[Wario]]. After [[Luigi]] was rescued by [[Mario]], Luigi headed to the third floor of the [[Princess Peach's Castle]]. Upon entering the room with the giant mirror, Luigi could grab a [[Power Flower]], granting him the "vanish" ability. The intangible Luigi was able to then pass through the mirror and jump into the painting of Wario. In the painting world, Luigi confronted and defeated Chief Chilly, claiming the Wario Key in the process.

The Wario Key is a gold key about Luigi's size. It has a giant "W" in the center with a [[Wario Hat]] on top. After Luigi unlocked the door that Wario was locked behind, Wario became a playable character and [[Wario Hat]]s became available in courses.

==Yakkey==
[[Image:Yakkey.PNG|frame|250px|'''Yakkey'''.]]
[[Image:Yakky Screenshot.jpg|thumb|left]]
'''Yakkey''' is a talking key that is needed to open the door to the [[Windy Mill]]. The key is locked away in a treasure chest in [[Tubba Blubba]]'s bedroom. During the events of ''[[Paper Mario]]'', the hero [[Mario]] had to sneak past Tubba Blubba, who was sound asleep in his bed, and open the treasure chest containing Yakkey. Unfortunately for Mario, Yakkey was a talking key who was completely loyal to his master Tubba Blubba. As a result, Yakkey screamed as loud as he could, causing the "invincible" Tubba Blubba to wake up. Mario ran away with the key, and Tubba Blubba chased the plumber through his fortress. Eventually, Mario reached the windmill that held [[Tubba Blubba's Heart| Tubba Blubba's weakness, his heart]]. When the game came to a close, Yakkey desired another master to guard his secret in the Windmill.
