===Split Space Mikey From Mikey Mine===
{{Early notice|March 12, 2025}}
These enemies have different differences and names between them, while one is alive, is exclusive to water and can regenerate, the other does not share these features, although in the SMG2 section of the Mario portal you can see Space Mikey with the name of Mikey Mine this is more than clearly an error, since if they were the same the section would have an image to demonstrate it as Lakitu / Pipe Lakitu, and also in the SMG section of Mario portal these two are divided,if these enemies are separated we should split them but keeping them as variants

why are mikey and space mine fused?[edit]

Why the space mine and Mikey are fused, the difference is very noticeable and they even have different names in Japanese, although in SMG they were called space mikey, in SMG2 the name was changed to mine onlySorbetti (talk)

Because the "more recent" (using that phrase loosely since they updated on portal at the same time) game treats them as the same thing. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 18:28, March 3, 2025 (EST)
While related enemies, I agree they should probably be split. I'm inclined to think the portal page for Super Mario Galaxy 2 simply forgot to include both of them; it does not even include two pictures the Mikey Mine listing on that page. - Nintendo101 (talk) 18:32, March 3, 2025 (EST)
It matches how the Japanese ESBM treats them between the two games. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 18:54, March 3, 2025 (EST)
Yes, but the underwater naval Mikey Mine is still not pictured in the encyclopedia. Besides, even if it was lumped in an official capacity, they still are behaviorally distinct in both games, just in different ways. The Mikey Mines in Galaxy 2 can still regenerate after being hit, and only occur underwater. Neither of these traits are true for the Space Mine, so I still think it is valid to keep them split, in my opinion. - 19:42, March 3, 2025 (EST)

In that case we should separate them anyway, while Mikey is just Mikey, the other is space Mikey and in the same portal he divides them, space Mikey is a variant of Mikey, that's how I see it.Sorbetti (talk)

I think it can go either way, though if we do split them, where should we mention the unused landmine version? Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 19:48, March 3, 2025 (EST)
The underwater Mikey Mine is treated as the "parent" in their nomenclature and looks a little more similar to it, so probably that one. - Nintendo101 (talk) 23:54, March 3, 2025 (EST)

I would like to see the model, depending on that we could know if it is more related to Mikey or "Space Mikey"Sorbetti (talk)

Here you go! Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 00:36, March 4, 2025 (EST)

I think that due to their resemblance and similarity of mechanics, for me at least the unused model should be grouped with Mikey MineSorbetti (talk)

Well, the only real similarities they have that the others don't is that they respawn and have the pressure points rather than spikes, but I guess that's enough. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 01:58, March 4, 2025 (EST)
Can you help me move the proposal to the proposals in process page?Sorbetti (talk)

Split Them(Support)[edit]

  1. Sorbetti (talk) Per proposal.
  2. Qyzxf (talk) - this kind of bothered me before and I see the argument for keeping them together, but having different names available for each in both Japanese and English and one clearly being designed to appear as a living/mechanical enemy while the other is an inanimate object: I think a split is completely fair
  3. Waluigi Time (talk) Different name, design, and behavior. Seems like a no-brainer.
  4. Arend (talk) I mean, I DID prefer that back in that proposal when these two and several other "mines" were merged with the Mine article...
  5. Nintendo101 (talk) The Space Mine is probably still alive considering it is considered a relative of Mikey Mine - it just lacks a face, similar to the distinction between Amps and Zap Balls.
  6. Camwoodstock (talk) Per all. The only real overlap these two have are "being mines" and "color scheme".
  7. EvieMaybe (talk) per all
  8. Hewer (talk) Yep, that's what I said, it's Mine.
  9. FanOfYoshi (talk) Should have been split a while back
