First appearance | Mario & Luigi: Brothership (2024) |
Weeping Troopers are Reclusa-adjacent enemies based on Zokket's forces in Mario & Luigi: Brothership. They are large machines with a round body of two shades of blue, blocky teeth and yellow eyes with red outlines. They have three forms, each having long arms and corresponding to a variant of Zok Trooper (and in fact, their bodies also contain these corresponding types of Zok Troopers when defeated). Their Spike form gives them red spiky arms as well as a spike on their head. Their Jet form allows them to fly, replacing their feet with a jet as well as giving them blue claw arms. Finally, their Zokkarang form provides the Weeping Troopers with white limbs and glowing, electrically charged, white-purple boomerangs, shaped like rings. Weeping Troopers are found inside the Soli-Tree, roaming the overworld in their Spike form, where they punch and chase after Mario and Luigi if they approach. Many Weeping Troopers are among the horde of minions Reclusa sends after Mario and Luigi when they reach the top of the Soli-Tree, although none of them are fought in battle.
Battle[edit]
After the Weeping Trooper attacks, it can change to a different form. Weeping Troopers in their Spike form cannot be jumped on, and ones in Jet form fly. They have three attacks, one for each form:
- In their Spike form, Weeping Troopers can strike at the Bros. four times with their arms. Before they directly attack Mario and Luigi, Weeping Troopers telegraph where they will strike. Some attacks will be in the air. This attack is avoided by jumping; landing on the arms does not deal any damage to the enemy.
- In their Jet form, Weeping Troopers fly above the characters before landing on one of them. Sometimes the Weeping Trooper might change their target mid-descent. Mario and Luigi must use their hammers to counterattack the Weeping Trooper. If the enemy does not change their target while falling, they must be countered twice.
- In their Zokkarang form, Weeping Troopers throw both Zokkarangs at the brothers, one at a time. This attack is dodged by jumping. If the Zokkarangs are avoided, they will slowly spin to the other character's position. If they are dodged a second time, they will return and strike the attacking Weeping Trooper.
When Weeping Troopers are defeated, they explode, revealing a Spike Zok Trooper, a Zokkarang Trooper and a Jet Zok Trooper, all of which walk off-screen. Sometimes, the Zokkarang Trooper will throw a Max Mushroom at Mario or Luigi, healing them 200 HP. A defeated Weeping Trooper yields 1634 EXP, 230 coins, and possibly an Ultra Nut.
