Plunder in the Sunken Ship is the first mission of Jolly Roger Bay in Super Mario 64 and Super Mario 64 DS. Its objective is to find a Power Star inside a sunken ship.
Layout[edit]
The titular sunken ship is located at the bottom of the bay, at the other end of where the player starts. It can be entered only through a small hatch, which is guarded by Unagi the eel. After the player dives down to the boat, Unagi must be lured out of the hatch before it can be entered. (This is done using a much different procedure between the two games.) Once Unagi leaves, it starts circling above the ship but lets the player enter. In Super Mario 64, there are four treasure chests inside the ship that must be opened in the correct order. If this is done correctly, the ship rises to the surface, draining all of the water out. The correct order for opening the chests is:
- In the back, directly in front of the player.
- Turning around, the chest on the left.
- The chest on the right.
- Turning around again, the remaining chest in the center.
In Super Mario 64 DS, there is only a single treasure chest, but opening it has the same effect. Once all of the water is gone, the player can climb up a series of platforms to reach a yellow block. This block contains the mission's Power Star, and collecting it completes the mission.
