The Flower Cup logo in Mario Kart 8.

The Flower Cup is a cup usually appearing as the second cup in the Mario Kart series. It is represented by a Fire Flower.

This cup exclusively features new courses, usually including a Mario Circuit as the first or second course. It is slightly more difficult than the Mushroom Cup. The Flower Cup is available from the start in every mainline Mario Kart game except Mario Kart 7 and Mario Kart 8, where it is unlocked by completing the Mushroom Cup. In games that do not have all cups available from the start, completing the Flower Cup in third place or higher unlocks the Star Cup.

In Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the Flower Cup is one of two cups themed around a flower, alongside the Boomerang Cup.

The cup appears also in sports-themed Super Mario games like Super Mario Strikers and Mario Superstar Baseball. In Super Mario Strikers, the Flower Cup has six teams, five rounds, and uses the table system. When the player finishes in the top three, the Crater Field and the Star Cup are unlocked. A similar cup is the Super Flower Cup. The Flower Cup is also one of three playable tournaments in Mario Sports Mix.

In Mario Tennis Open, the Flower Cup is the second cup in the World Open tournament. It is played on the Wario Dunes court, and matches in this cup have one set for the starting round, and three sets each for the semi-finals and finals. The CPU difficulty is slightly higher than in the Mushroom Cup, which must be completed to unlock the Flower Cup.

The Flower Cup is also the second cup in the COM Tournament mode of Mario Tennis Aces, featuring middling CPU difficulty.

Profiles[edit]

  • Mario Kart 64 website: "The Flower Cup turns up the heat a little, with more challenging and longer courses than in the Mushroom Cup."
  • Mario Kart Wii trading card: "Talk about a diverse set of tracks; the tracks that make up the Flower Cup must be located at the four corners of the Mushroom Kingdom! The layouts are great for developing your skills and the surroundings will keep you interested while you look for ways to reduce your lap times."
