Egg Flappers (also referred to as simply Flappers) are some of Dr. Eggman's robots, introduced alongside Egg Pawns in Sonic Heroes. They are usually weak aerial sentry drones that only get in the way, but different colors exist with weaponry such as machine guns, lasers, or bombs. They resemble Egg Pawns, but can fly via airplane-like attachments. They are fairly uncommon in their home series, with their role typically going to Spinners, which predate them. Their only Super Mario appearances are in games of the Mario & Sonic series, where they usually appear as enemies in various Events.
History[edit]
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games[edit]
In the Wii version of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, Flappers appear as obstacles in Dream Platform, where they will cause the player to lose points and speed when hit.
In the Nintendo DS version, Flappers appear as targets in Dream Shooting, where they will also occasionally appear carrying Item Boxes. Flappers also appear as obstacles in Airship and as one of the enemies to be sorted in Conveyor Belt.
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games[edit]
Flappers appear as targets in the Individual and Team versions of Dream Gliding in the Wii version of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games, where the players can hit them with Green Shells to earn points. Standard red Flappers are worth two points each, while the golden ones are worth three. A Flapper also appears during the Sonic World routine in Dream Figure Skating, where it first appears carrying a Chaos Emerald during the first segment, and is defeated along with a second Flapper to obtain the emerald during the second part.
In the Nintendo DS version, Flappers appear as enemies in Rocket Ski Jumping, where they cause the player to lose speed and altitude when hit. A Flapper also appears as a boss for the Sonic Medley routine in Ultimate Figure Skating, and Flappers carrying targets appear in Ski Shooting. A Bomb Flapper appears in the Defeat Bomb Flapper! minigame, where it drops Bob-ombs after being modified but apparently not reprogrammed by a Shy Guy.
Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games[edit]
Egg Flappers appear as enemies in Dream Fencing in the Wii version of Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games, where they move around the platform and cause the players to lose health and get knocked back when hit. Egg Flappers can be defeated with a thrust, but will continue to respawn.
In the Nintendo 3DS version, an Egg Flapper appears in the Story Mode, where it appears with an Egg Pawn attacking Omochao and a Chao, but is defeated by Bowser Jr. A badge of an Egg Flapper can also be obtained from the badge machine.
Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games[edit]
In the Nintendo 3DS version of Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, Egg Flappers appear as an obstacle in Golf Plus, where they patrol certain areas of the course with beams that turn balls into heavy iron balls if they land in them.
